Liz The Family Search on line ordering system seems to be up the spout at
the moment. When it is back and running I will order film of BTs for
Midsomer Norton - 2 films as noted in earlier email
Wellow -1 film - Baptisms, marriages and burials, 1599, 1609-1610, 16--,
1623-1639, 1662-1667, 16--, 1732, 1747-1767, 1798-1837. Some other years
also missing or with illegible dates. Some pages severely damaged.
- film Baptisms , marriages and burials 1599-1623 are on
same as second MSN .
Beckington -1 film -Baptisms, marriages and burials, 1599-1640, 1662-1668,
1737-1738, 1751-1754, 1801-1837. Some other years also missing or with
illegible dates due to poor condition of original record.
Will let you know when I have ordered

Hi Nigel,
I could do with a trip to Worthing!!! So yes I you would like to order them.
Also can you have a look and see what they have on Wellow or Beckington.
What I'm looking for is the following
Cornelius Kately from Preston but living at Willmington married Mary
Jennings from Chewton Mendip at St Peter and Paul Bath Abbey 7/4/1656
witnessed by Benjamin Kately and William Kately.
Benjamin Kately from Preston married Cicely Biggs from Camerton at the same
church on 27/9/1655.
Obviously related. Both marriages where preformed by the Rev from Bath and
Camerton. I haven't found any children from these marriages but we do have
evidence of Benjamin m Martha Sims in Beckington 21/4/1715 and there is also
a Benjamin that married Hannah in Wellow. Could he be a descendent of
Cornelius or Benjamin.
However I do not know which Preston they are from or where Willmington is. I
have googled it and get Eastbourne but thats no where near Bath.
Any suggestions? So if you find anything that relates to those parishes let
me know and maybe I can get the film for there as well.
Cheers
Liz

Liz - I agree with Andrew , I don't think the answer lies at the
Taunton
CRO, there is nothing in the catalogue that looks particularly helpful. On
the other hand, if the LDS filmed earlier Bishops Transcripts, it begs the
question, where are the originals??
Would you like me to order the LDS films as they take several weeks to get
hold of. The downside is that you might have to come down to the Worthing
Family Record Centre ( a room in the LDS Church) to view - as this is
where
my account is held.
The Film claims to include MSM parish church Bishops Transcripts
"Baptisms,
marriages and burials, 1594-1640, 1664-1667, 1733-1735, 1746, 1801-1837.
Some other years also missing or with illegible dates due to poor
condition
of original record. Film no 1470874" The years 1616-1663 are available on
a
separate film (no 95273).

Liz,
What survives is in the County Record Office, but according to their web
site that's not much! I also seem to recall that there is a published
version in the Bath Ref Library, but which only has a few names from the
first half of the 17th century - I'll have a look later on today. The
Philimore guide also states that some earlier entries were copied into
the surviving register - I did ask the on line parish clerk whether any
Catleys were amongst them, but she has not replied as yet. I have also
come across a reference to a John Catley in the printed 1641 Lay
Subsidy, but unfortunately the Protestation Returns of the same date do
not seem to have survived for the north and east of the county, which is
very frustrating as they look very interesting for the south and the
west!
Do you know whether anyone has ever investigated what survives of the
parish chest documents for MSN? It is possible they might throw some
light on the Emery/Thomas connection or the problem of the two (or is it
three?) James and Marys.
Regards
Andrew

Liz- The LDS catalogue shows film of BTs for MSN going back to 1594. But
it's not indexed as far as I know.
