Many thank's Nigel for confirmation of the GJC+MAR wedding + children's
years
of birth. As it happens I have all five dates ( i.e. wedding + bob and dod x
2 ) correctly recorded but it was worth the double check with you as the
database entries for the wedding are a bit confusing concerning the India
Office N11 series until explained that they are in 5 year blocks.
Duplications in the database are quite common (and explained by Chris as to
why he includes them) and usually self evident and often complimentary,
coming from different sources, but usually obvious because they are in the
same year block.
Concerning Catley accidents/fatalities during Indian Railway construction :-
presumably a search has been done in the National Archives ?

Subject: Re: [CATLEY] George Jesse Catley
Hi Tim - The correct date for George Jesse Catley and Mary Ann Roddle's
marriage was 10 Sept 1873 at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Bombay.
The
service was conducted by Rev C Harding.
I think the confusion with the 1871 date arises because the marriage is
recorded
under the India Office's N 11 series (civil registrations etc ) -
presumably
because it took place at a "nonconformist" church. The IOR film reference
is
N11/4/497. The Index for the N 11 series lists the marriages in 5 year
groupings , unlike the other N 1, 2 and 3 series etc which list them by
individual year. Hence the transcripts on both the BL and FIBIS websites
give
the marriage date as 1871-1875.
George and Mary Ann went on to have two children Percival Hope Catley
(1881) and
Evelyn Catley (1884)- but both died as young children. George himself died
0n
8th June 1885 aged 39 of 'heart apoplexy ' and is buried in Sewree
Cemetry,
Bombay, India
