Hi
I only just now found out about this mailing list--maybe someone will
have a piece of the puzzle that will get me going in the right direction.
I have a Jane (or Jane?) KETLEY (also variously spelled KETLAY, KEIGHTLEY,
KEETLY, KETLAW--that I know of; so far!), born c. 1820, possibly Sanquhar,
Dumfries, Scotland. She was married (I assume they were; might be wrong?)
to Richard HALLIDAY, and their children were born in Sanquhar. Her name is
spelled KETLEY, or KETLAY on their birth information (differed from one
child to the other). Agnes HALLIDAY was born 1843, Archibald HALLIDAY was
born 1847--he was my great grandfather. May have been an elder child named
Richard; but not definite yet.
I found a record on the IGI for the birth/christening for a Jane KETLAW, who
was the daughter of John KETLAW and Jane WILSON. I do not have anyway of
knowing if this is my Jane or not. I have been unable to find Jane and
Richard HALLIDAY's marraige information, so do not know her parents names
for sure.
In 1850-51 she had a child with/by Morris WELSH, named George WELSH, but I
do not know if they were married or not. In 1859 she had a daughter named
Margaret KETLAY--no other surname or father shown in IGI listing (all I have
at this point for this birth)
In the 1881 census, she is still in Sanquhar, but her name is spelled
KEIGHTLEY. Her son, George WELSH is head of the family, Jane is indicated
as mother, Agness HALLIDAY is listed as sister, there is Agnes's daughter
Jane HALLIDAY, listed as neice, and Margaret KETLEY listed as sister. Quite
the happy family! (And we call many of our families today "disfunctional"
or "blended"!!)
Anyway, I'm interested in any information that might lead to my Jane (Jean)
KETLEY.
Take care,
Cindy Gilbert
