Hi Everyone,
This list is very quiet - that's because everyone has managed to get their
line back to 1066 right ? Didn't think so.
The idea of this list is to help us become aware of other CAT(T)LEY
researchers' interests, partly so that we don't keep reinventing the wheel,
but also to try to assist each other where possible. Also, by posting to
the list, we can all read replies and possibly glean bits of information
about the name we are researching - whether we spell it with one or two Ts.
I have just acquired the National Burial Index for the UK which is somewhat
patchy but has quite good coverage for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (and
Lancs where there seem to be lots of CATLOWs). That being the case I
thought I would have another look at Linda van Meter's query of a couple of
weeks ago, which did not seem to get any response from the 32 people
subscribed to this list.
I would be most happy to look up the Burial index or 1881 census for YOUR
ancestor/s. I also have some London Directories, and Holdens 1811
directory for all of England (the big market towns mostly). Plus easy
access to most of the Australian records on CD if your ancestors came
here. I daresay, there will be people in America who have resources in
their homes which the might be willing to look up for our CAT(T)LEY clan.
Linda : You thought that your MUMBY's had gone to Canada around 1874, but
I think they are listed in the 1881 census - see below - they appear to
have lived in the same street as the CATLEYs, though I doubt Willoughton
has too many streets. The CATLEY children, interestingly, were all born
in different places, though there had been CATLEYs in Willoughton for many
years.
If that is the right family then you can perhaps check out other records at
your local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family History
Centre (Mormons - and no I'm not one <grin>). They may have or be able
to get the British public record office films/fiche in which you could
look for birth's, deaths and marriages. I know our local FHS has them so
they must be available from Utah where all the films come from.
Or, does anyone have an Emma MUMBY in their tree ?
Details of the Burial/Census records follow below my signature.
Cheers........... Erica Hills in Perth, Western Australia (Listowner)

Burials relevant to Linda's Query CATLEY/MUMBY :
I am attempting to track Charles CATLEY and Emma Mumby CATLEY. I have
their
marriage certificate showing they were married July 1, 1886 in Willoughton,
England. Charles was 25 at the time and his father was John CATLEY. Emma
was born October 30, 1859 and was also 25 at the time of their marriage.
Her parents were George and Elizabeth Foster MUMBY from Willoughton.
My mother's maiden name was Mumby, and her grandfather (John Foster MUMBY)
came to the Canada and the United States with two brothers and their
families in about 1874. However, I'm trying to see if I have any relatives
still living in England and have just found that Emma (who would have been a
sister to John Foster) married a Catley and may have stayed and had their
family in the area.
