Hi.
My wife Winifred L A Clark is a Catley descendant.
Mother - Lilian May Catley 1891-1968
Aunt - Annie Whittaker Catley 1898-aft1968
We believe these were the only two children of George Catley (1855-1925)
from his marriage to Elizabeth Rebecca Whittaker in 1890. George was a
Widower & a Draper at this time but was supposed to have had a child George
by his first wife Selina. It would appear he came to London met Selina then
spent most of his life as a Draper's Assistant around South London. He
lived at John St Battersea as well as Ponton St (The site of the new Covent
Garden), also High St Deptford before retiring to live in Dickens Rd West
Ham with his daughter, finally dying in Whipps Cross Hospital. After many
months I have at last found who I believe to be them on the 1881 census
listed as Calley, he born 1855 at Bellericary (Billericay) Essex, she 1854
at Lambeth, Surrey. I am awaiting certificates of this.
George's father is listed as James Charles Catley, a builder, another I
can't find yet.
George's son George born about 1881 married Agnes & lived in Chadwell Heath
Essex. There was a boy Lionel, fostered or adopted, a Catley or a Howard, a
Captain in the army believed serving in India for a spell before retiring &
working in industry at Barking Essex.
If anyone knows anymore I would like to know please.
