Dear Chris,
The two Catleys are probably already in the database.
I did not contact you while we were in Britain as all our time got
committed. (Up windy staircases in castles etc.)
Liz completed all her work at St Andrews with no problems and with them
wanting to keep her.
Found that I am also of ancient Pict descent on my father's side. (Short!)
(Surname - Moug)
We went to Wiltshire as Liz is very interested in the henges and the use
they were put to. So of course I went to the Trowbridge Archives for a
brief visit. ( John Catley m Eliza Signal in NZ. She was from Trowbridge)
I am firmly convinced that the Signal is the wrong spelling because on
looking at the Wiltshire phonebook I found a lot of very different names in
the S's but no Signals Sidnell was probably the closest. And now you
have told me that Midsomer Norton is close to this area. More concidences.
Perhaps my Zacariah came from over there in the beginning.
I am so tied up with supposition at the moment that I just confuse myself.
We had a wonderful time in Britain from 5000 bc to the Imax theatre.
We had two days on arrival in London and did on off buses and the River
Ferries.
On departure we had three. Liz and Henry and cousin did Kew while I threw
a migraine.
Day 2 we did the river again down to Greenwich and back.
and the 3rd day did Westminster Cathedral and Harrods. All of us NZers in
our Tshirts and trou. and backpacks in the middle of Harrods. What a
sight we must have been. But anyway we had a great time there and were
served wonderful coffee in the little coffee bar in the food hall. Aren't
colonials the dizzy limit.
As first time travellers we were surprised at the effects of jet lag.
Thought of you while were in Scotland when there was that bomb in your area.
Not a nice thing to happen.
Also in Scotland we found that we were quite close to Leuchars airbase and
also saw low flying jets with bombs underneath. It made us realise that
the distance we are from all of this in NZ makes us very casual to what is
going on in the world.
Anyway it would have been nice to have met you. Maybe some time if you
come out here.
Regards
Anne
