Sarah Catley (baptized at Great Limber, LIN on 6 Oct 1773 as 'Catteley', was
the elder sister of my 3*great grandfather, Richard Catley - see book
extracts below - the issue of William Catley and Elizabeth Ranns.
Note the IGI has the date as 1773 whilst Fred Ross recorded it as 1774.
I haven't updated my files, but I rather think Sarah married John Pearson on
17 May 1798 at Killingholme, LIN - as per the IGI.
The Lincolnshire submissions for 'Pearsons' on the UK Nationa Burial Index
CD's - carry the following entries for East Halton, LIN (St Peter's
Church)which is 2.6 miles from Killingholme:
1817 Feb 23 - John Pearson - aged 50 yrs
1840 Jul 30 - Sarah Pearson - aged 66 yrs ...... Sarah Catley bapt. Oct 1773
???
A John and Sarah Pearson had the following issue bapt. at East Halton as per
IGI (C028002)
1806 Oct 05 - Sarah
1808 Dec 30 - Mary
There is a further 'Pearson' bapt. shown on the above batch no: for a 'John
and Ann' Pearson...
1799 Jan 26 - William
Whether the mother should read 'Sarah' is open to question.

Greetings All
Frederick Ross's pedigree of the Ross family in East Yorks written in
1885 gives the following piece about the Catley family.
He gives further detail about the family of Mark (hence the q.v.,
infra).
WILLIAM CATLEY, of Limber, d. 1804. m. Elizabeth Rands,
and had issue ---
JOHN WILLIAM, of Limber, molecatcher, b.1777. m. Anne Cousen.(?)
THOMAS, of Broughton, sailor; afterwards molecatcher; b. 1780. m. Mary
Clayton.
JAMES, b. 1783, mate of a Greenland whaler, drowned 18--.
m., --- and had issue ---
HENRY, Captain of a West Indiaman, who d. in the West Indies.
MARK, q.v., infra.
RICHARD, of Kirmington, carrier, b. circa 1787. m. Sarah Newmarch, of
Croxton.
SARAH, b.1774. m., --- Pearson, a farm labourer, Killingholme.
ELIZABETH, b.1776; d. 1874. m. George Mundy, farmer, Wooton.
CATHERINE, b.1785. m. Wm. Tomlinson, ship carpenter, Hull.
From this it seems that Fred had information that Sarah married &
became a PEARSON. I have found his information to be generally sound,
at least in those items that I have checked. Although working as a
carpet salesman in London he was quite an academic author who retired
back to his native Yorkshire in Driffield.
Perhaps a look at Killingholme registers might help. The birth in
Cambridge seems a bit unlikely for a Lincolnshire ag lab family.
An intersting problem - or a problematical coincidence.

Hi Michael,
Have you looked at this page on our CAT(T)LEY site :
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hills/catley/catleyrands/inde
x.htm
It is clear from
www.family.search that there are two separate Sarah
CATLEYs who were born and married at around the same times - one in
Limber
who married John Pearson, and your Sarah CATLEY in Cambridge who
married
Robert OUTLAW. The marriage of Wm CATLEY to Elizabeth RANNS is
shown in
Familysearch as being in Limber, LIN on 13 May 1771 and the
information is
shown as having come from a parish register (batch # C028702).
I cannot find another marriage between a CATLEY and a RANNS or
RANDS. Have you checked the parish registers for your Cambridge
CATLEY
family ? The data on the page on our site came from Fred Ross who
has
now passed away, but it would be good to clarify that both your
details and
those on our pages are correct. I guess I am asking if you are
certain
your grandmother was Elizabeth RANNS. This seems to be a very
interesting duplication if that is the case. Steve Chapman has
the
ROSS pedigree as far as I know - what do you think Steve ?
Cheers........ Erica
