Hi Tim
There are a number of Catley references in the BMD index. Here is the
link - http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/ . I didn't follow it
up anymore because I thought they would be part of one of the existing
trees.
Cheers
Pat

Dear all,
Came across the following in a printed versions of the Somerset Quarter
Sessions. Does anyone claim him? For those of you who are not
Westcountrymen Timsbury and Priston are both quite near Midsomer Norto
and Camerton..
A Thomas Catley seeks benefits after an accident.
Ilchester 24th April 18 Charles II (1666)
26) Order to the parishes of Priston in the hundred of Keynsham and
Timsbury to appear before Sir Thomas Bridge Knt and John Harrington and
Peter Roynon Esqs, at their next privy session at Keinsham, and report
to the same judges to settle the different between the 2 parishes
touching the settlement of Thomas Catley and to report to the next
General Sessions; the inhabitants of Priston having complained that
Catley has been in service for 5 years or more in Timsbury and was hurt
and maimed there, and that Timsbury refuses him relief on pretence that
he has an estate and part of a cottage in Priston, and both parties
having appeared before the justices named above a week ago last Thurs
and appealed to this General Sessions, at which Timsbury has refused to
appear.

I also think that this is our man, and have been in correspondence with
Bernie. Holloway is indeed in Bath, it was once the main route out of
the city to the south, connecting with the Roman Fosseway. I have sent
Bernie pictures of the area, although unfortunately part of it was
rather unsympathetically "developed" in the early '70s. If anyone else
would like copies let me know and I can email them.
Regards
Andrew Hayes

Bernie & Liz,
All this talk about dna tests and your latest update (thank you by the
way)
on your Thomas of Bath tree for my "all Cat*ley spreadsheet" reminds me
that
you are still looking for Thomas' connection here in the UK.
I mention this because there is yet another Somerset Catley line (apart
from
Emery of MSN and Thomas of MSN and Henry of Cucklington) and that is
Thomas
of Camerton (1723) which was drawn up by Liz a couple of years ago.
You have your missing Thomas as born in the Bath area about 1818 with
father
also a Thomas and nothing else known about his time in the UK apart from
his
trial etc and transportation ex Bath Assizes to Australia.
Now on the Thomas of Camerton tree, we have a Thomas(2) born 1776 in
Camerton (near Midsomer Norton) the son of Thomas(1) born abt 1723 who
married a Lavinia Purnell. Son Thomas2 married twice, his 2nd marriage
being
to a Jane Vizer in 1808. They had six children born in Widcombe,
Claverton
and Beechen Cliff Place which are all sub districts of Bath, with just
one
sibling born in Holloway on 29/06/1817. Holloway to me usually means
just
one location and that is a district in the London area, however I have
just
discovered that there is a Holloway in Bath, close to Beechen Cliff.
The child of Thomas2 and Jane happens to be Thomas (Thomas3)
So here we have a Thomas, son of a Thomas born in 1817 in Bath
Is he your missing ancestor?
Maybe you and Liz have corresponded and discarded him and I did not see
any
e-mails but I thought it best to flag him up, just in case.
Cheers
Tim
