Hi Listers
Don' know if anyone else knows this.
This is a good site for emigrants to canada among other things the site is in French and English versions,
although many documents are in French .
www.collectionscanada.gc.ca
There are passenger lists for arrivals in the port of Quebec for 1865 to1900
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-f.html
Hope this is useful.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the alternative spellings as Fowlmere and Fugelmare both just mean bird pond ,
while I had incorrectly been thinking on the lines of dirty marsh or foul mire.

Hi Chris,
Page 1799-
27/12/1732 M Edward CATLEY husband of Grace GREY Barkway HRT -- SHEILAN
27/12/1733 M Edward CATLEY husband of Grace GREY Barkway HRT PR MICKCAT
My PRO info and also IGI indicates Mick is the right one here with the year being 1733 not 1732.
Best wishes
Tim
Hi Lynda,
I still prefer the Domesday Book spelling version:-
FUGELESMARE

How do Mick,
I was under the impression that Liz had the information concerning the
Tisbury branch of the Barley Catleys ie James who m Martha Grey and their
offspring which includes Charles c 8/11/1772 but maybe not.
Having done a few checks via Chris' trusty Catley Database, I realise that I
was mistaken in thinking that the name change from Catley to Cadley took
place with the registration of Charles and Mary Hibberd's two sons Charles
1814-1887 and John 1814-1840, as Sharon makes it clear that they were bapt
Catley at Barford St Martins, 15/5/1814.
I assume therefore that the change took place with the next generation where
Charles+John had 12 children between them but to have a spelling error
twelve times over seems odd and suggests that it was deliberate?
Have we heard from Janet (Catley) Newman recently? Seem to remember that
she, like Sharon, was working on the Wiltshire//Somerset Catley connection.
Cheers
Tim

Hi Liz
I shall look into this at the weekend - I don't have a record of a Charles
living in Penselwood, although having said that, I'll make absolutely sure
that he didn't go missing and turn up there! As far as I can remember,
Charles b.1772 in Tisbury married Mary Hibberd, not Mary Reed. I don't think
I've got another Charles of around that date, but you never know! My feeling
is that he belongs to the Somerset Tree that we haven't yet established a
connection with unfortunately.
Sorry not to be more definite at this stage, but my brain is full of my Ward
Tree that I've picked up again after about 10 years(!!!) of no work on it
due to hitting brick walls. A bit of progress has finally been made with it
at long last!!
Hope you're keeping well,
Sharon

Hi All,
Has anybody lost a Charles born abt 1770 ish. Areas I am looking at are
Herts, Wilts and Somerset. Whilst looking for info on Glynis's tree I have
found a Charles Catley married to Mary Reed 13/8/1802 at Cucklington. On the
marriage lenience it states he lived in Penselwood which is right on the
boarder of Wilts.
This family has been recorded as Cadley Calley and various spellings of
Catley which might interest Sharon. I also have the name Reuben in the
family which looking through records and could be a coincidence there are
some in Herts/Cambs.
Cheers

Morning Kay & Liz,
Have either of you done any more work on this Yorkshire Tree?
I ask because am obtaining detailed information concerning Warrant Officer Charles Catley of the Royal Marine Artillery who was killed in the Battle of Jutland 1916 as part of my campaign to ensure that the Commonwealth War Graves Commission have all Cat*leys killed in action in both WW's correctly listed. We already know that they got two members of the James Catley of Barley (Hertfordshire) Tree incorrectly titled and one of them did not even have his grave identified. Thank's to Sharon, the CWGC have now confirmed that they will make the necessary alterations and additions.
As for Charles Catley, Royal Marine Artillery, Warrant Officer, HMS Queen Mary (Battlecruiser), we now know that he was a member of the Robert of Garforth Tree but from my data, it looks as if we never did find out if there are any surviving members of this Tree here in the UK?
However I recall some correspondence with an American descendant from Amos Catley of Leeds (Robert of Garforth Tree) and his son James Watson Catley who emigrated to Maryland and Kansas but due to PC troubles, I have lost her contact details.
Would like to catch up with her again, have you an e-mail address and name please?
Regards
Tim
