Hi Tim,
I think the Heale Catley entry - as it has '1704' beside it, that could
refer to the date.
(I can't see anyone of that name in the IGI)
And I am assuming that in the Catley, John entry ... "Goring" is a place,
and the date
is 1559.
Which makes them both pretty early.

Must admit that I have not Kay,
Until recently I have been embroiled totally with my own Tree with a clear
lineage back to 1580
and have been thus rather narrow minded (or maybe, single minded) and have
only more
recently started to take a more lateral approach to the whole issue.
However, I suspect that the likes of David and maybe Erica could well have
explored such
records as Chancery Proceedings.
If they have, no doubt they will burst into type.

Liz,
Did you run the info past your Catley BMD lists?
George Thomas Catley b 21/10/1889 London from your Service Lists:- is
shown as born in 4th quarter of 1891 ex PRO. At least I think so, there is
no other
Geo Thomas Catley anywhere else near, that I can see on that list.
Just goes to show how one can not trust any one list to provide proof
positive on
any one person!
Is it 1889 or 1891 I wonder? Which does one take as factual?
I know you were just being helpful in relaying what you have found but I
thought that the anomoly serves as a useful illustration as to how things
so often do not tie up as maybe they should do.
Regards Timcatt.

David,
Thanks for the information, a kindly thought.
Have been through it all but none of the Catley names match up against the
1881 Census for Cattley.
As we all know, the spelling of the name has wobbled about between the
usual single T and some lesser double T spellings ever since the name
came into existence and so it was indeed a good idea to double check Catley
V's Cattley lists from the 1881 Census.
Back to the drawing board this side: I guess that this Census was not
especially efficient in netting in all householders because I have many
still unaccounted for names.

I will need some coaching as to how to use this IGI site to best effect.
It must be really frustrating when you have proof positive as to history
but IGI will not accept corrections that you KNOW to be accurate,

Those Trafalgar Terrace Catley's are mine. As is the first Agnes.
from my "John Catley of Leeds 1800".
There were definately TWO single 't' Catley families living in Leeds
around the same time. I can't gt a connection between them yet.

Hello All,
Can I ask those more experienced than I, for their comments on the
following:-
I downloaded the census freebee from Ancestry.com for Cattley
for 1881 but quite frankly I am disappointed by its contents because
the information therein seems sparse compared with the family tree
information I have to hand coupled with the BMD lists that I also have
ex Kew.
As I have indicated before, have built up a database of Cattley BMD's
ex Kew from 1840's and then appended my own Tree records against it
and then applied the information I have gained by personal contact
with "other Cattley nameholders" who have assisted me in putting
their lineage on this map of names.
So far, so good. The Kew BMD's were not selected electronically but
by a stalwart Cattley distaff researcher; Frank Coveney who in the
early 1980's, spent six weeks travelling up to Kew each day mon-fri
to manually extract the information.
I know how meticulous Frank was in his research and feel certain that
he netted everything on record.
When I compare my composite data against the Ancestry.com Census
for Cattley 1881, I am left with numerous names that I can not apply to it
because they are missing.
Put another way, I seem to have a lot more information than can be
applied to the Census!.
For example, there are no Census Records for people who I know were
living in the Wakefield and Leeds area at the time when it was conducted.
So my question is: just how accurate were these Census meant to be?
One thinks that it should be 100% but if that was the case, then
obviously I should be able to apply each and every person known to
be alive at that time from the BMD Registers onto the Census but I can
not.
This is very frustrating to me because I am attempting to gain an overview
research of main line Trees without getting involved in individual detail and
would have thought that at least "The Official BMD's and Census Records"
could be expected to match up?
The obvious choice for most persons at this stage who were researching
their own individual lineage would be to go a stage further and seek out
individuals for confirmation of this or that.
In my case, am already working outside my own Tree and simply attempting
to qualify things at long range by what should be a reasonably simple system
comparison.
Regards
Timcatt
Tim,
It sounds like you have done an excellent piece of work there.
I would very much appreciate a copy.
Thanks.

Thanks Ros, I am a member. I will try and get into town and have a look.
Unfortunately the Ancestry connection at SAG is so slow it's GLACIAL,
but I will perservere. I have already used up my free membership.

Where do you live? At the Society f Australian Genealogists we have
Ancestry which has the English, Welsh, and USA Census on it. Only members
can access it. If you do not live near Sydney and if you are a member you
can ask the Society to try to find the information for you for free (except
for the cost of copies). If this is not possible, you could try some Morman
outlets. Otherwise you could subscribe to Ancestry for a short time and

Dear all,
If anyone knows where I can access records for a census of the US in
