Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Kay,
I do sound confusing half the time!! I think its because I have given up
smoking and my brain is working faster than I'm typing!!
What I have done is print off the Catley BMD from Freebmd and I am also
adding to my list the ones that are missing to give to Chris for his site,
this will help new people until freebmd have transcribed all. Then I am
putting peoples names by the bmd so we will all have a record of who has
proved that the record belongs to them. Then we can look at the list and
see who is left over and see if we can then relate to that person. This
saves people ordering a cert unnecessary.
For example
Ernest Catley married Dec Q 1886 Lambeth 1d 822 well he is mine and I have
the cert. If other people are looking for relatives in Lambeth I can then
tell them who this person is and the other details saving them £7. plus.
Hope this is not to long winded
Liz

Hi Tim,
I don't want to take your job over as I think you are doing a good job. The
way I look at things is if you have info then share it that way it helps
all. I am trying to get all the Catley info ready for Chris, so that maybe
he can put it on his site. Trouble is its a slow process.
From researching my dads side of the family I have come across a lot of new
found relations, some are willing to share there knowledge whilst others
feel that they paid for information and took years of research why should
they share!! I can understand this to a certain degree but any information
should always be checked after all we are all prone to typing errors etc, it
just makes it easier for everybody.
Got to go and make cakes with my 3 year old Ugh!!!!!!!!

Liz,
Hows about I recording my Gerald Coveney PRO Cattley records into excel and
sending them to you?
I have been meaning to do this for some time now but never got around to it,
prefering to look things up against my paperwork copies instead.
If I do this over the next few weeks, then they should be ready for when you
decide to address the Cattley lines.

Hi Derek
I ordered the Certificate on Friday evening and I'll post the details when
it arrives!
If you'd like me to scan the Certificates in for you (Gwen's Birth and Death
as well) then I can always arrange for this - just let me know!

No,we were living there for 18 months, and Hertford is a very pretty part of
the
world. Lovely old town. It was long before I discovered an interest in
family
history..and I had no idea that those places were nearby...
What I find amazing is the sheer number of Catleys..I grew up thinking I had
an unusual name.

Hi all,
Thanks for the quick response.
The two Sarahs mentioned are a rather too young , however the persistence in naming a later child of what is probably the same marriage would perhaps suggestmore than an idle fondness for the name ,possibly naming them after an older Catley? relative of that name . Thanks again folks anyway, maybe another will turn up.
What a great bunch of people on this list!
Regards Dave Barker
Hi Dave,
Like I said previously, there should not be a problem if people remember to
put the COUNTY that the village is in.
In the case concerned the place name is Anstey of which there are two to my
knowledge:- one in the county of Leicestershire and one in Hertfordshire.
It is the Hertfordshire one which with the nearby villages of Barkway and
Barley, form the early origins of what we call the Anstey Tree.
The three villages of Ansty that you refer to are to be found in the
counties of Sussex, Warwickshire and Wiltshire respectively.
Regards ................ Tim
P.S. I am guilty myself of forgetting the "e" in Anstey from time to time!

G'day Liz,
I am prepared to assist although my records of BMD's in England and Wales
after 1837 are very limited as my interests moved to Australia in the 1850's.

Hi Dave,
Here is another lead for you:- Chris Newalls lists: Sarah Catley
christened 14th October 1738 at Barkway, father Charles Catley. Source
seems to be Sharon White.
This Sarah is closer to that one I listed before circa 1744 from the same
Parish.
Hope this helps you?
Regards again ......... Tim

possibly the Sarah you seek?

Hi Listers.
Calling all CAT s form the Anstey Barley and Royston areas. Does any one have or know of a Sarah Cat(t)ley born about 1720 /1730 from this area where the Counties of Herts Cambridge and Essex meet?
Regards Dave Barker
Dear Jann ,
On the subject of Ellen Cheal and her relatives
I Quote from a letter sent some years ago(1992)at the age of 83, by my late
aunt Phillis Barker nee Hickman "You will notice that George Welfare
migrated to Australia where he married and had a large family"{I think some
of it was ready made ie step children--Dave)--"One of his daughters,Agnes
married my relative Clarence Hickman, and they had a son Malcolm and daughter
Peggy, both of whom live in Victoria .Just a few weeks agoMalcolm and his
wife came to Hobart for a visit and Malcolm mentioned that he remembers his
grandfather George Welfare. Peggy also came a few months ago to visit and
she told me she sometimes goes to visit her Aunt Victoria, born 1908, still
living in Melbourne and with a very good memory.Victoria was George Welfares
youngest daughter.Peggy has Ellens autograph book referred to in the welfare
family history"
I don't know if you would be interested in tracing Peggy and the autograph
book on the offchanc that it might have entries relevant to your family.I
have no contacts for my Australian kinunfortunately and do not even know if
Peggy (Surname unknown) is still alive but I shouldn't be at all suprised.
Dave Barker.Regards

Hi everyone
Bit more information for anyone interested in this branch!
I've had a look at the 1901 Census and discovered the following:
Address 3 Elcot Avenue Camberwell
George W Catley Head Married 36 Clerk Leather born Camberwell London
Ada E Catley Wife Married 33 born Camberwell London
Lizzie A Catley Daughter 11 born Camberwell London
Ethel S Catley Daughter 6 born Camberwell London
I can't find a birth on FreeBMD to tie in the first daughter, but the second daughter appears to be under Births Sep 1894 as Ethel Gladys D Catley born Camberwell ref 1d 819.
There is also a birth on FreeBMD for Lily Victoria Catley registered Sep 1895 born Camberwell, and her death is shown Sep 1896 Camberwell aged 1. She could have been another sibling.
Hope this helps!
Sharon
