Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Addendum,
Sharon, I feel that I know from somewhere deep in my grey matter that I have
letters from a Valerie Oleson in the 1980's that indicates that Gwen Catley
belonged to the Tree which we all now know as the Ansty Cat*leys.
My old snail mail files are in a bit of a mess to say the least but I will
go through them and see if my memory is correct or not.
Ansty is a small village in N.W.Hertfordshire and has been a prolific
supplier of Cat*leys who naturally spread far and wide and today have issue
both still locally but also in the London area and Essex and by emigration,
in Australia.
I lost contact with Valerie when her family moved further down towards the
West Country which is a pity because she knew so much about the Ansty clan.
At the time, I was not that bothered because I knew that this Tree and my
own were not related but now, with the Internet and Rootsweb, we have all
had the chance, form whatever Cat*ley source we come, to easily communicate
and pool information together.
Anyone know of Valeries whereabouts?
Regards Tim

Subject: Ernest Catley
Hi Tim and All,
I have just received a death cert for Martha Elizabeth Catley the wife of John Thomas Catley. It states that her son was at her bedside. His name was Ernest. This is a new name for me, but Tim if you remember a while back when we had a discussion on the airman that was killed. Frederick Norman Colin Catley from 49 Sqn mentioned on the CWG site. His father was Ernest Catley. Well I have ordered the marriage cert for Ernest to find out if its the same person. If it is can you still get access to the RAF records even though you would be a cousin or nephew. If so how do you prove who you are. I should get the cert this Fri or Sat. Just to let you know Martha was 66 and a widow when she died so I can look for John's death which might give me a clue as to where he came from.
Cheers
Liz

Liz Cordingley kindly directed me to the CATLEY Web Page which I am
absolutely delighted to find!
I know that my grandfather - Robert Charles Catley - born February 1886 in
Stepney, London and IN THE SOUND OF BOW BELLS therefore a true Cockney, had
a brother Harry and a sister Jessie (or Jesse and maybe short for Jessica)
and that he had an uncle Harry who was a "horse doctor" which I thought
quite swish until my father told me "Bah! he'd cut your throat for half a
crown"!! (I do not know who gave my father this information probably his
father) My grandfather married Martha (Pat) Coville in her hometown in
Cambridge between 1908 and 1910. They met in the East End where my
grandmother Martha was (apparently) in service. They may have married in
the East End or maybe Cambridge but I know they lived there when their first
son Charles was born in 1910. Shortly afterwards, Harry, my great uncle
(and of course grandfather Catley's brother) moved to St Helen's Lancs and
encouraged my grandfather (his brother) to move there also for the "work" in
a coalmine. My grandfather and his family moved to St Helens (much to my
grandmother's disgust) but 6 months later Harry and his family (know idea
who or what that family entailed) emigrated to Australia. Jessie, I
understand remained in the East End and as a spinster. I understand from the
little research I have undertaken that Londoners did move to St Helens Wigan
Warrington etc at that time to work in the mines. My grandfather and
grandmother and 3 of their 4 sons died in St Helens, my father, the youngest
son died in Luton, in 1998. All the information I have been able to gather
and confirm as correct is on the genesconnected website. I realise I have
much to do but will really be able to focus on this from next year.
Maybe someone recognises a little of this tale - please let me know if you
do - would be brilliant to make some connections.
The Catley's in St Helens lived in Pocket Nook Street upon their arrival and
until my grandfather's death. The 3 sons who remained there with their
families lived in Moss Bank and/or Billinge.

Dear all,
I have an ALCE (Alice) CATLEY who was born circa 1785 in Leeds. She
married a SAMEWELL ROBINSON 20th July 1806 in Garforth. I have no idea
who her parents were except that according to the Parish Records her
mother died in 1804 and was buried at Kippax. For some reason, I forgot
to make a note of her mother's christian name! Can anyone shed any light
on her?
Kind regards,
Liz Moran
