10 Apr (year missing), but probably 1658. Eliza. SLAUGHTER gives to her
son Francis SLAUGHTER a mare, feather bed, and other items. Francis to
have possession of some of these items when he would turn 21. Dates and
some items are missing from the extant document. This record was
probably created in anticipation of Elizabeth (UNDERWOOD) SLAUGHTER
marrying John CATLETT, in order to preserve her son's legacy from his
father Capt. Francis SLAUGHTER.

2 Nov 1658. John CATLETT and Alex: FLEMING witnessed a power of
attorney, dated 1 Nov 1658, from Valentine ALLEN of Rappahannock who
appointed Mr. Thomas HAWKINS his attorney in name and stead to deliver
to court his right and title in a patent.

from the Burgesses (colonial legislature). [Most of document

2 Nov 1659. John CATLETT, along with Tho: GOODRICH, witneseed deed
between William UNDERWOOD, gentleman, of Rapphannock and Mary, his wife
and Capt. Richard LOES and Rice JONES, which conveyed UNDERWOOD's
plantation located on the north side of the Rapphannock River. Adjoined
Coll FANTLEY's property Mangorick, along the eastern most side of
Bushwoods Creek, containing 650 acres. Included all houses, outhouses,
edifices erected on the property, except for the Courthouse.

--ber 1658. (Complete date missing). Mr. John CATLETT and Mr. John
PAINE delivered by word of mouth the last will and testament of Richard
LAWSON. Wife (name either not mentioned or obliterated) to have used of
his plantation and afterwards to Eliza. LAWSON, daughter of Epaphraditus
LAWSON. James GAINES to have a heiffer. John TAYLOR, his servant to
have a heifer. John WHITTY mentioned, but many details missing. Looks
as if he were to receive some land in payment of a debt.

5 May 1659. John CATLETT, Allex. FLEMING, Thos. HAWKINS, and Sam:
NICHOLS, ordered to appraise a tract of land belonging to Lt. Coll.
SMYTH, deceased. Property contained 16600 acres and located on the
north side of the Rappahannock River. Appraised at fifteen thousand
pounds of tobacco and cask to hold same. [The deceased was probably
Toby SMITH. Widow Phebe SMITH].

24 Aug 1660. Survey and draft of John CATLETT presented in court on
behalf of HUMPRY BOTH (Booth) and Margarett his wife. Deed to Rober
SISEN (Sison). 310 acres, part of 700 hundred patent transferred by
Mrs. Margaret UPTON to Booth. East side of Richards Creek, south down
the Rapphannock River where it joined the land of John EDGCOMB to near
the house commonly called Peacock's Quarter.

RICHARDS and Will UNDERWOOD. Walter GRANGER acted as attorney for
William and Mary UNDERWOOD and made bill of sale to Samuell NICHOLLS, 1
