Is there anyone on the list familiar with the NELSON family of Fauquier
County, Virginia?
Am currently working with entries in FAUQUIER FAMILIES, 1759-1799, by
John ALCOCK and in it he shows a marriage bond for 15 Jan 1766 between
John NELSON and Mary YOUNG. Is this John the son of John NELSON, Sr.
and Sarah WHITSON of Fauquier County? Was Mary YOUNG the daughter of
Original YOUNG?
If so, this conflicts with other data I have which shows that John
NELSON, Jr. was born 11 May 1759. This John NELSON married Bathsheba
HOGAN (daughter of John HOGAN and Mary Ann CATLETT). This information
came from Darleen Ann Ritchie Berens in correspondenc to me in January
1995. Darleen shows the father of this John NELSON as the son of John
NELSON and Sarah WHITSON. Am wondering if perhaps there is a missing
generation from Darleen's work.
My interest is from a CATLETT perspective. Both the YOUNG, HOGAN, and
NELSON families intermarried with descendants of John CATLETT who was
one of the earlier settlers of present-day Fauquier County having
received a 358-acre land grant in the Northern Neck ca. 1715.
NELSON descendants scattered in the late 18th century. Some early on to
Shenandoah Co., VA; then to Washington Co., TN; then to Barren Co., KY.
Some YOUNG descendants to Bath and Clark Cos., KY.
Your help is appreciated and if anyone has a current e-mail address for
Darleen, I'd be interested in corresponding with her again. I think she
was a member of Prodigy in early 1995.
