Well, I was doing genealogy BC myself. I met Karon way back when, AC, and
only because she thought Stubbs' book didn't have an index. I was lurking
then too<g>, but I sent her the index. After that we covered many Catlett
miles, but I never have found ANYTHING on my mystery Catlett woman.
My Catlett dilemma:
William Triplett moved to Fauquier Co. ca 1764. The first mention I find of
his wife, Mary, is in 1768 when she is in court for the illegal sale of
liquor. By ca 1780, they had 5 children, Celia, William, Catey, Helen and
John. In 1786 Mary is listed as a "spinster" in another legal dispute over
the illegal sale of liquor.
In the meantime, William has four other children, Isabella, James, Susan and
Nathaniel, by some other woman. These children, by my best estimate, were
born between 1769-1776.
William names all his children in his will (1822). My Triplett, James, is
referred to as "Jimmey Catlett alias Triplett." I can only assume that
their mother was a Catlett. I don't believe any of these children ever used
the Catlett name, but had to be named so to make the will legal.
My only clues to her identity are the children's names and that they were in
Fauquier Co. I have estimated her birth year to be 1738-1748.
I have the Salt Lake Genealogical Library twenty miles from my house, but I
haven't been there for 2 years and won't be going for another 2 years (that
would be after the Olympics 2002)! Road construction, parking construction,
oh, the agony of it all!!
Any guesses on the identity of the mystery Catlett woman?
