I've been gathering info. on my husband's Catlett
line...here's what I have:
William (c1728-1788)>Robert
(1721-1803)>David>(1753-1834)>George (1793-
1854)>Margaret Ann Catlett (1823-1856). All in VA/KY/MD.
The birthdate (ca. 1728)for "William" seems a bit out of line with his
son, Robert being born ca. 1721. I gave a guesstimated death of 1695
for "William" (or whomever is the father of Robert) and want to add
that the 1788 death date is also guesstimated. (At least it is in my
database). Have you come across any reference to William in any records
in the lower valley or Stafford, Pr. Wm., or say, Orange (parent county
of Frederick)? I've not seen anything (yet) that can be linked to this
William with any great certainty. Still looking though.
Want to add here, too, that if Robert is a brother to John (358-acre
land grant in Stafford Co. (now Fauquier) and who died in 1778), then
Robert's father would also be named John, per court records of Stafford
and Fauquier. Again, nothing in the records to link Robert and John.
There are records that link Robert with brothers, Peter, and James
though. I'm in the middle of another project which presents a timeline
of these guys in some Fauquier Co. records. I can't promise when I'll
be done though. It's been an ongoing project since this past spring.
It may be something I can work on over the holidays, depending on how
much "down" time I have while in Alabama.
Much of what I have is from family researchers...I haven't
had time yet to do much original research...but thanks to my
sister-in-law and Karon and others I at least know where I
need to work...actually, the wives of the Catlett's are
proving to be very hard to trace.
My memory's a bit fuzzy here -- which of the children of Margaret Ann
CATLETT and John BEVANS does your husband come down through? And do we
have the double kinship via the BLACKWOODs as well? Have you been in
touch with Mary Banks Nichols recently? Does she still have George's
family bible? I have photocopies that my cousin Virginia obtained from
Mary's mother ca. 1978. Mary promised me a "looksee" when we worked
together, but that was a while back too and I haven't had a chance to
visit her since she "retired" to Berkeley Springs. Note here, that one
of those "serendipitous" (did I spell that right?) things happened when
I was only 2 weeks into the job in 1988. Mary and I accidentally
discovered we were 4th cousins, only because I'd forwarded a phone call
to her from one of our "personnel" customers and then listened to part
of the conversation -- which she quickly got into a discussion of
Hessians in MD and the WV panhandle. Weird, eh? <s>
Thanks for posting!
