Dear Doris,
Thank you for answering. It might be the same line, only farther back. At
this point I don't know much. I saw a message on the list back in 1999:

Cool.
Perhaps they're related to the Caroline Co., VA group?
This is a possibility, at this point I have looked in just about all
the
counties in Va. Richard and Benjamin were brothers, I "think" my John
was an
uncle, but since I can't get out of East Tennessee with them I really don't
know. There was also a female CATLETT in with them, I believe here name was
Annie (not sure on this) since she was older she could have been a sister to
John (all of the above is speculation only)...Richard and Benjamin were
horse traders and my John was a carpenter.
The closest I have come (without proof) is that a John CATLETT was
awarded
land "south of the Ohio" from his uncle Thomas CATLETT. The dates
fit but
that is all.
Do you have and dates or places for *this* Thomas? I'm wondering if he's
the Thomas CATLETT who Stubbs speculated as being a son of Alexander CATLETT
and Susannah BEALL (Hanson in the Stubbs book)?
Quoting from Stubbs (p. 64):
"...is believed to be a son of Alex and Susannah Catlett. All the sons of
the other available Catletts at this time have been fully accounted for.
There is a John Catlett, who went early in life to Jessamine Co., Ky.
(perhaps attracted thither by his uncle James, who had previously moved
there), and is the ancestor of a large progeny in Kentucky and elswhere, who
may be a son of this couple. (See page [UND:] [:UND].) There may also be
other descendants; if, so, they moved away
early in life from Frederick Co., Va., since these records give no further
mention of either Thomas or his possible children."
Here's a 1995 comment I made in the record of this Thomas regarding a
relationship to the John Catlett (above):
"There does not appear to be a link between the John Catlett who settled in
Jessamine County, Kentucky early on and Thomas Catlett. John appears to
have been the son of Benjamin and Mary Catlett of Caroline County, Virginia.
If there is a connection, then it would seem more likely that this Thomas
was a son of Benjamin and Mary and [UND:]not[:UND] a son of Alex and
Susannah Catlett."
Note that "[UND:]" is used to show an underscore in the text.
I apparently wasn't confident enough in this identity solution to actually
break the link between Thomas CATLETT and Alexander CATLETT, and then
re-establish a family link between Benjamin CATLETT (and wife Mary) and
Thomas.
I did assign a "son candidate" relationship between Benjamin CATLETT and
Mary to an Elijah CATLETT, based on a Caroline Co., VA record which shows:
Elijah CATLETT deeded land from Benjamin and Mary CATLETT. [William
BULLOCK vs. John CATLETT]
"John CATLETT executed a deed dated 2 Oct 1802 to William BULLOCK for land
he claimed by deed from his father, Benjamin CATLETT. Benjamin CATLETT and
Mary CATLETT his wife conveyed 'all his lands' to Elijah CATLETT on 20 Jan
1802. Benjamin CATLETT is now dead and John CATLETT resides in Kentucky."
(Hopkins, CCVR, p. 16) [CCVR=CAROLINE COUNTY VIRGINIA RECORDS].
Summing up -- Benjamin CATLETT (b. ca. 1728, d. bet. 20 Jan 1802-15 Aug
1808; s/o John CATLETT and Mary GRAYSON, per Stubbs) and Mary were parents
of John and probably Elijah. Thomas may have been another son of Benjamin
and Mary.
Do we have anything to link the Catletts in Sevier Co., TN to the Catletts
in Jessamine Co., KY? Were there more than one Catlett branch in Jessamine
Co.? [Note, also that Stubbs' key document was the will of James CATLETT
(s/o Alexander and Susannah BEALL) of Jessamine Co., KY which mentions
several siblings of James, although there is no Thomas nor a John
mentioned). Stubbs may have assumed that all the Catletts in the records of
Jessamine Co., KY were very closely related.
Hope I haven't rambled too much. I have a detailed report for the
descendants of Alexander and Susannah at my Web site:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/karon_bosze/alexndr.htm
And I can produce other reports in a similar format for what I have on
Benjamin and Mary. If this would be helpful, let me know.

Hi Alice,I'm not sure if its the same line or not but there were
Catletts
in
Sevier Co.TN. My greatgreatgrandmother was Jane Catlett Henry she
married
Rev.John Henry in 1850 in Cosby,Cocke Co.TN. also not sure who her
parents
are in this line at this time but might be a Samuel or John Catlett
of
Sevier Co.TN. these are I believe sons of aReuben Catlett but also not
possitive on that at this time. Hope this helped out some or at least
maybe
another County for you to look.
