My Catlett quest is for a scalawag of the female persuasion.
1764-William Triplett first bought land in Fauquier Co.
1768-His wife, Mary, was in court for the illegal sale of liquor.
ca 1769-William and Mary have Celia.
ca 1769-William and ???? have Isabella.
ca 1771-William and Mary have William. (this date is only a wild guess)
1773-William in court for retailing spirituous liquors within the twelve
months past.
1772-William and ???? have James.
and so it goes.....
There's more, but you get the picture. William is believed to have lived to
the ripe old age of 103. In his will, dated 1812, he names all his
children:
I give to my son William Triplett one Doller
I give to my son John Triplett one Doller
I give to my daughter Heland Tayler one Doller [Helen m James Taylor]
I give to my daughter Seley Gen one Doller [Celia m James Genn]
I give to my son Jimmey Catlett Alias Triplett one Doller and all my joiners
tools
I give to my son Nathaniel Catlett Alias Triplett one Doller
I give to my daughter Catey Crump one Doller
I give to my daughter Isabella Hensey one Doller [Isabella m John Kenner
Hense]
I give to my grandaughter Susannah Triplett one cow and calf and a bed and
furniture
I give to my daughter Sukey Catlett Alias Triplett all the land I own in
Fauquier County. Also five hundred lying on the great Canaway and all my
stock of horses cattle sheep and hogs all my household and kitchen
furniture........
....John H Triplett, Charles Waller, Lewis Waller and my daughter Sukey
Catlett Alias Triplett executors....
Throughout my research I have determined that Isabella is also a Catlett
child. I wonder about Catey, but since I don't know who she married or
where she went I'll have to leave that in the air.
James, Nathaniel, Isabella and Sukey (Susan) are definitely Catlett Alias
Triplett children. All of these names appear in the Triplett family, though
I don't believe the name Nathaniel is in William's line. I believe they all
lived in Fauquier Co. at least until marriage (1795-1825). There were two
females enumerated with William in 1810, one 10-16 and the other 26-45. I
believe Sukey is the 26-45 and possibly Susannah, the granddaughter
mentioned in the will, is the younger one.
Many years back this guy perpetrated what I consider to be genealogical
fraud on the entire Triplett clan. Of course, he never had documentation to
support any of what he said and unfortunately many have clung to what he put
out without ever questioning his "data." He assigned this Catlett woman the
name of Sarah. I have never found anything to support this claim.
Who is this Catlett woman who had time to be having all these kids? Where
are those 500 acres on the Great Kanawha and where did William get them?
