Hello Karon, Thanks for the offer to look up records. Not sure how much
they would turn up, but if at some point you were there anyway, I would
appreciate it.
William O Catlett would have been born in 1829 or 1830 based on the 1850
census record. He served in the 94th Illinois Infantry known as the McLean
County Regiment. He was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps October
10, 1864. I think for a while he was stationed as a guard at Camp Douglas,
the prison camp in Chicago. I found a photocopy of a civil war pension
request on
Ancestry.com a year or so ago. The application listed his son
Edward as guardian, and Alice as his wife. I can't find it this evening,
but will try to locate it and check.
His wife Elizabeth was born in Kentucky in 1830 (her parents were both from
Virginia); 2nd wife Alice was born in Sardinia, Brown County, Ohio in 1839.
I forgot to mention that William owned some land in McLean County, he
purchased two 40-acre tracts, three years apart (1864 and 1867). They were
listed in the online Illinois Public Domain Tract Sale Database.
Thanks again.
