John Catlett, Henry Catlett, William Catlett and Martha Jane Catlett Meeks
moved to Sullivan County MO from Ohio at about the same time. These four
Catletts are likely orphaned siblings. Jeannie Rabbitt reports on the
location of John in the Goodhart household. Henry is in the Winemiller
household. Betty Hood posted a message recently on the gen forum Catlett
Message Board indicates that "William Catlett was sold as a Bond Slave at
about 10 years old to Mortimer Triplett in Ohio." In the 1850 census William
is listed as age 16 and living in the Triplett household.
My wife, Donna Catlett, is descended from William. Her family stories
include the report that Catlett children were orphaned when their parents
were killed by Indians and that the children were "parceled" out to other
families. Were John, Henry, William and Martha Jane's parents killed by
Indians?
Reportedly, their parents were William Catlett and Elizabeth Farber who were
married September 5, 1829 in Morgan County, VA. Does anyone have any
information about this couple? Were they killed by Indians? Other postings
on the Catlett-L refer to this couple.
Family information passed down report that William Catlett's father was John
Catlett born in 1768. This John married Elizabeth ?
I'll be very interested to hear thoughts and comments.
