Follow up to Pam's reply to me about Lettice CATLETT and the "LETTICO"
lady.

Karon,
OK, to address your questions...
First about the given name, Lettice, apparently there are 1778 VA Co Court
Records of Fauquier Co., VA with the following various entries--these came
from Sam Sparacio:

Yep, I probably have read the entries. I've not looked at them in quite some
time though. I wonder if whoever put together those 27 genealogy files,
confused the name Lettice with Lettico. I think that came from an early 20th
century article, but not sure. I know what I've got in my file isn't right
either.
I supposedly descend from the William who Stubbs reported as dying around
1788. However, I don't think we have him hooked to a Joan of any surname.
And then the information back to David and Nicholas (through the MERIWETHER)
isn't right either. I've not made the time to correct (negate) the record.
Karon, there is such eeriness about whether my GA line (not
Hazelwood, but
his "possible" nephew, Laban) could be more closely related to the Fauquier
Catletts. A direct descendant of Hazelwood and his son, Labourne, was Epp
Catlett of Lousburg, Franklin Co., NC. He was actually Rommie Epp Catlett
and passed away two years ago. I have visited with him and his family and
walked close by the now-private land where Hazelwood lived. He could never
prove it, but he sure had a feeling about his our NC Catletts coming from
the Fauquier group.
Here's my theory and only a theory. One of the brothers headed south and the
other north from Lancaster. They ones who went north went into Stafford,
Prince William, later Fauquier, and after that Frederick. Where Stubbs has
"William" as the first in the valley and then placing Robert, James, Peter,
and John as his sons, I'm 90% confident that "William" should be
"John" (who
obtained a land grant containing 358 acres, which passed to his son John
Catlett Jr, which in turn was split in two parts and given to John Catlett
Jr.'s two sons (William and Alexander). I wish every day that Deed Book K
(Stafford Co., VA) would be returned to its home at the Stafford County
courthouse. I feel that it would give us the name of the sons and daughters
(none have ever been identified), although I suspect that Elizabeth CATLETT
who married Edward GARRETT was a sister to the four boys mentioned a few
sentences ago.
The ones who went south, perhaps from Lancaster or perhaps from Stafford went
into the Carolinas.
Now, do you have any idea what Mr. Catlett's thoughts were on the connection
to the Fauquier Co. group? I've seen nothing to prove or disprove it. Am
certainly open to putting a degree of relationship on our kinship -- since we
have no real idea right now how we connect. Would DNA testing resolve it? (I
don't think there are any male Catletts living who descend from my George,
although his son Daniel Morgan Catlett left male children. I think one of the
sons died fairly young. The other, though, may have living male descendants).
