I'm baffled, but thats nothing new for me. The 1900 census I referenced is
online,on Rootsweb, on the Ripley county MO web site.
I don't have the exact url. that is also where I got Leroy or Lee Roy's
marriage information, which matches with oral famliy history.
According to that 1900 census, he was born 1876 in MO, and that falls into
the right time frame, as well as his having wife Alice ( PRICE) in his
household, as they married 1899. Jeannie has been to Ripley County MO,and
gathered much more info, and has generously shared it with me.
Pretty much anything else on my part is speculation. To make the story
interesting, as far as Lee Roy goes, family rumor says he was killed in some
soty of river boat accident, circa 1910, leaving Alice and children, Grace,
Alice, Herb,( my father) Oral Lee and Raymond. Supposedly Alice died soon
after, orphaning the kids. Oral Lee 'supposedly' was taken in by the Andy
Nippers family, in or near Doniphan, and nothing is known about the other
children. Now, NONE of these children were on the 1900 census, so if they
were orphaned 1910, all would have had to be placed somehow, with other
families or in orphanages. Herb was born 1906, Oral Lee born 1908, and it is
assumed that Grace and Alice were the elder, and Raymond the youngest. Its
all pretty much speculation on my part, as I said.
OK, I understand that Thelma McManus, of Doniphan Mo is the noted genealogy
researcher for that area, and has quite a few books written on tha area. Her
information is also on the Ripley website.
Soo, for now, I stand confused, and still wondering.
