Hi Listers --
I wanted to remind those not familiar with the GenConnect Query Boards and
their relationship to the RootsWeb mailing lists that there is an optional
"gateway" built in that allows (or disallows) the postings to those boards to
be posted here on the mailing list. For example, if you see a message that
begins, "Posted on: Catlett Query Board" (or some other board name), and you
want to reply to that message, click on the link below that salutation line.
That will take you to the GenConnect Board and allow you to reply there. Your
reply will then be forwarded to the appropriate mailing list (in my example,
the CATLETT-L list).
I'm mentioning this because there are people who post to the GenConnect Boards
who are NOT members of the associated mailing list. And in fact, not all the
GenConnect boards have this link or gateway set up between the board and the
mailing list. That is an option that is negotiated between the administrators
for the boards and the administrator for the lists.
For the boards that I administer, I've put the gateway in place. So if you
reply to a GenConnect board posting *just* to the list, there's a good chance
that the GenConnect poster will never ever see your answer to them.
Also, as a reminder, if you hit the reply button to reply to a message posted
to the list, that reply will, more often than not, be sent to ALL members of
the list. So, when sending a "sorry can't help" message in reply to
someone's
query, everyone on the list is receiving that message. Those kinds of
messages would best be sent to the individual. Messages with positive
information, of course, are encouraged, so go ahea and post those directly to
the list. Others, in the future (via the Archives feature) might benefit from
those answers.
Happy Holidays to ALL!

Lists (Blackwood, Catlett, Funk, Hellums, Helm, Helms, Lantz, Latshaw,
