Hi Martha --

I started gen. research on my family years before
computers...am now working on my husband's lines, which
include Catlett.
My questions are about allied lines:
George Catlett (1793-1854) and Clarissa Lantz had a daughter
Margaret Ann, who married John Bevans in 1847, Allegany Co.
Margaret Ann and John had a daughter Martha Ann Bevans...was
she a nun? Was her brother John attacked and killed in
Berkeley Springs when he was taking Martha Ann to a
relative's home? Anyone know anything about that story?
Also have heard that George Catlett's four daughters each
inherited 400 acres when he died? Any truth to that?
George and Clarissa Catlett are my husband's
grgrgrandparents.
I've not heard any of those stories. I was in contact with some of the older
cousins when I first started researching my roots. For those who didn't know,
Martha's husband and I both descend from George CATLETT and Clarissa LANTZ. I
don't recall any of them mentioning these things. I'd like to know, too.

I believe that George CATLETT died intestate in Allegany Co., MD. I think the
probate records are located at the courthouse in Cumberland (either that or
I'm confusing Daniel LANTZ's estate).
As for the 400 acres a piece, have you done a study of his land purchases to
see if he held at least 1,600 acres at the time of his death? He had six
surviving children at the time of his death, as well as surviving children of
his son, Dr. Willoughby David CATLETT. If he did die intestate, provisions
would have been made for the surviving heirs by the courts. Do you know
whether he owned land in Maryland, as well as, Virginia? (His wife preceded
him in death by one day. Did she own any property in her name?)
Mary Ann Floyd married Robert Catlett (1721-1803). Were her
parents Henry Floyd and Mary Bruce? Anyone know anything
further about Henry Floyd and Mary Bruce?
No proof on these connections, but if one follows Mary FLoyd's (I don't have
any proof that she had a middle name) brother Henry, into Kentucky, one will
find CATLETTs in the same neighborhood. Good questions. I'll post my
questions in a separate message.
