I want to know his given name. My gg grandfather in Sevier County,

I have thoroughly enjoyed your postings to the list. Many thanks! I wish I
had something to help you, but don't have anything definitive.
I do suspect that your family is descended from the Caroline Co. group,
although the branch I'm thinking about purportedly moved to KY in the early
1800s, per what I seem to recall to be either a surviving tax list or from a
surviving lawsuit docket. And of course the reference to KY may have been in
error and the family may have removed to Tennessee. (I may have already
posted that material to the list in 1998 or 1999 or even later. Some days I
think I'm in the early stages of Altzheimer's). If you'll look in the
list's
archives for December 1999, you'll see a message titled "CATLETTS in
Tennessee," posted 14 Dec 1999 in which I provide my Caroline Co. theory.
Just that, a theory! (If you or anyone else needs help in locating our list
archives, it can be found via the
RootsWeb.com homepage, under mailing lists,
I believe).
You are fortunate to live near the McClung Genealogical Library. Excellent
facility. I had the good fortune to spend a day there enroute to the NGS
Conference in Nashville (May 1996).
