Karon, Thanks. Is this then the same John who married second Mary Grayson?
Uhm, I don't think so. First I have to ask, "Which John, Harry?" As Lee
Hoffman said to me on the OREAR list yesterday, "Aarrrgggghhh!! Too many John
Catletts! <g>"
BTW, good to hear from you!
The John CATLETT who died in 1778 (with 358 acres of land being divided
between sons, Alexander and William) may have been married to a woman named
"Ann" or "Susanna" (or similiar name) or possibly two wives with those
names.
There are some court minute abstracts that suggest this. (I don't have them
handy, so won't be posting them today).
This John's son, John, is believed to have been disinherited (left one
sterling shilling per his father's will). I've seen similar wording in other
wills that didn't necessarily mean disinheritment, but it may be likely in
this case. There are also many court records on a John Catlett in Stafford
Co. (or maybe Fauquier) who spent a good deal of time in trouble with the law
(criminal and civil, the latter related to indebtedness I think). This may be
this John. Dr. Stubbs and wife thought that this John went to Burke Co., GA
ca. 1767. I don't know. Pam Mullinax or other GA CATLETT subscribers, how
likely is it that the Catletts in GA descend from this John?
John, the son of William, supposedly married Ursula BAILEY and then Margaret
PUFFENBERGER. Frst marriage in 1796. Second marriage in 1847. Is this data
correct? Dunno.
Harry, now my second question to you, what have you learned about John CATLETT
and Mary GRAYSON? (I'll post what I think I know and what others have
purported to know after we hear from you. <G>).
