Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Subject: [CATLETT] Who's on Facebook?
Are any of our list members also on Facebook?
There are two Catlett-related
genealogy research groups on Facebook.
One is focused on the northern
Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. I
administer that group. The other
group is administered by Joey
DiStefano and is focused on all branches.

Waking our Catlett list up to see who's still here and who's email
addresses are not longer valid. So there will be 5 or 6 messages sent
through here today.
Consider DNA testing for your Catlett and other family lines.

How many list members do we still have and have YOU had your DNA tested
with one of the major DNA testing companies (Ancestry, FTDNA, 23and Me)?

Not sure if any of the Catlett researchers of the "wagaon train orphan"
Catletts are still on the list or not, but this might be of interest to
them, if they are.
Came across a court case in Missouri involving the orphaned Catlett
children, as adults, in 1874. Case summary: Plaintiffs John Catlett et
al. were siblings (and siblings-in-law) of the deceased Henry Catlett,
husband of the defendant Hester Catlett. The plaintiffs filed suit
against the defendant for the estate of her deceased husband. The court
found in favor of the defendant, and the plaintiffs appealed. The cause
was reversed and remanded in the Supreme Court because the document had
never been signed by the deceased.
The names involved:
Catlett, Henry - Deceased
Catlett, Hester - Respondent
Catlett, John - Appellant
Catlett, William - Appellant
Eagen, James - Appellant
Eagen, Louisa - Appellant
Meeke, Martha - Appellant
Meeke, Nathan - Appellant
Meiheu, Mary - Appellant
Meiheu, Perry - A [rest of word missing from the Web site]

I contacted the Missouri State Archives a few weeks ago requesting
further information about obtaining copies of this case and they
responded a few days before the Independence Day holiday. I plan to
order copies of these records by tomorrow.
I appears that there may be a couple more children than previously
thought. Henry (wife Hester), John, William, Louisa (husband James
Eagen), Martha (husband Nathan Meeke), and Mary (husband Perry Meiheu).
Are there any family stories that you've heard of regarding this case --
am supposing that it might have caused a rift between any heirs of Henry
and the rest of the siblings.
Will post further information once I've received the documents and had
time to review them.
