Did you know the Rowzie name started with Col. John Catlett's half brothers?

The "pedigree feature is avaialble now. Thanks!
The Rachel GIBSON (b. 1717) that you have in your database as daughter
of Jonathan GIBSON and Margaret CATLETT, conflicts with what I have for
her parentage. You show Margaret CATLETT as being born in 1710. She's
a wee bit too young to have been the mother of Rachel born just 7 years
later; we do agree on Rachel's birth year. <g> I have the parents of
Rachel as being Jonathan GIBSON and Elizabeth THORNTON.
As for Margaret CATLETT she was married to Jonathan GIBSON [Jr.],
brother of Rachel GIBSON and I have her parents as John CATLETT[2] and
Elizabeth (or Mary) GAINES, a generation earlier than you have. But I
do wonder about the dates here. John2 was quite old when she was born,
if his birth year of 1658 is anywhere near correct. And the son, John
born ca. 1680 is more the right age, but the man identified as John3
left a will in Caroline Co. and did not name a daughter Margaret in it.
See the will I uploaded to the CATLETT Will Board at GenConnect:
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/CatlettWill?read=1
I'm getting that all too familiar CATLETT headache right now. <G> Too
many questions, not enough years to figure out the answers.

Have you corresponded directly with "Kris"? And have you consulted the
marriage records of McCracken County? Kris' info _could_ be handed down
info from a source like Stubbs. And the info on the marriage CD's that
I have have errors, too, so not sure which is right. My advice, go to
the records.
> Additionally, Robert Owen
> Woolfolk m. Mary Elizabeth Enders, da. of Robert and Amanda (my information

BARBEE is probably correct. I can see how the two names could be
confused when reading people's handwriting. Probably an extraction
error in the CD.
> The Woolfolk, Owen, and Enders families are intertwined numerous ways in my

You know what Harry? You just said a mouthful and to be honest, I'm
surprised you don't have a TALIAFERRO or two in your tree (or is that
"twig"?). If you do, then you would truly have one of those family
trees that Jeff Foxworthy makes into comedy. <G>
Seriously, it's confusing even for those of us who've been studying
family histories for years. The Gibsons, Taliaferros, Catletts,
Carters, Walkers of the 18th century intermarried like crazy and then
when branches migrated from VA into "the wilderness", they intermarried
with distant cousins again and again. Now you understand the "Catlett"
headache. <s> Applies to many families from all parts of the world.
This isn't just a "southern U.S." phenomenon. You'll find it in the New
England families of colonial America and in Mennonite and Amish families
into the 19th century, and of the latter, even today.

Samuel DAVIS, b. 1857

Hello All!
I agree with Karon's statement about Dr. Stubbs' book. I know from my own
experiences that the Doctor's information for the upper reaches of the
Northern Neck is very messy. Several families are often jammed together
into one. I was able to sort out the mess a tad after only a couple of
hours reading court house records. I do not know how dependable the
Doctor's Tidewater information is. For me the best use of Stubbs is just
to pinpoint a county or place to look in.
If any one is trying to find Catletts in the upper Northern Neck. let me
know. Several years ago I abstracted the pre-1830 Personal Property Tax
Rolls for most of Northern Neck counties west of the Blue Ridge. I will be
willing to do a few look ups.
Happy Searching!

Does someone have the means to share with me
information on Catlett mentioned in Urabana,
Champaign Co. Ohio? The Catlett I am searching
for, Lee Roy, b 1876 MO, has a parent listed from
Ohio on the 1900 Ripley Co. MO census. This is my
dead end. Thanks for any help.

I looked in my database at the Robert - Robert - William line and didn't
see Anna Victoria list. But, am _glad_ you mentioned your ancestor
Felix DAVIS. So, found Anna Victoria, but not with that given name.
Stubbs gave it as "Angelina", p. 78. She's listed as "Angeline D.
CATLETT" in MARRIAGE RECORDS OF WARREN COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1836-1853,
INCLUDING MARRIAGE BONDS AND MINISTER'S RETURNS, by Rebecca H. Good and
Joan D. Hackett, Heritage Books Inc., 1993, p. 16.
They went to Urbana, Champaign Co., OH, correct? Some of my Blackwood
family, also from Warren Co., VA, went that way during the middle of the
Civil War.
Stubbs lists your Felix as "Col." Felix Davis. Was this a courtesy
title or the real thing? Which side of the "rebellion" was he on?
Would you share more with us? <s>
BTW, here's the link to my "WorldConnect" submission, which isn't my

You aren't alone about having had those thoughts. When I first began
researching the CATLETT surname, I thought I wouldn't find very many of
them. HA..was I mistaken!

Hello Karon!
It seems we've given some new life to the Catlett site.
Try as I may, I don't seem to be able to upload anymore information than I
already have. I have the Family Search Program and export to Gedcom 5. I
tried twice this a.m. Any help with this appreciated.
Ah!, but your main topic is fascinating. The Enders and Walters names have
been brick walls. The Woolfolk name is well-researched. I got the William
Henry Enders marriage to Lydia Walters, D of James and Mary Walters from
<http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/KY/McCracken?read=65> This
query forum gave me a double link since Lydia's sister, Elizabeth m.
Valentine Owen, a gfather from another line. Additionally, Robert Owen
Woolfolk m. Mary Elizabeth Enders, da. of Robert and Amanda (my information
says"Barbee", born 11/13/1826 in Shawneetown, Il and d. 12/4/1883 in Paducah)
Mary Elizabeth was a Southern Sympathizer and banished to Canada twice. They
had 10 children. I have never seen the Melvina Barber reference before.
Interesting.
The Woolfolk, Owen, and Enders families are intertwined numerous ways in my
family history and, being a neophyte, it is difficult to sort.
Apologize for the wordiness. I await your responses.
Hi again, Harry --
You wrote <in part>:
> Family names are Woolfolk, Taylor, Owen, Cochran, Enders.

I find it interesting to note that both WOOLFOLK and ENDERS are names
tied to CATLETT descendants of my line (Robert CATLETT and Mary FLOYD).
Mary Ann CATLETT (daugher of Robert CATLETT [son of Robert CATLETT and
Mary FLOYD] and Elizabeth FARROW) married Jacob ENDERS after 21 Dec
1798. Jacob ENDERS and Mary Ann had Willia ENDERS, b. ca. 1805 who
married Lydia DAWSON. Other siblings are:
John Catlett ENDERS m. Elizabeth COFFIELD
Henry ENDERS m. Adelia JACOB
Marquis ENDERS
[Dr.] Peter ENDERS
[William] m. Lydia DAWSON
Mary ENDERS m. Jesse K. BELL
Elizabeth ENDERS m. HINES
Robert ENDERS m. (1) Amanda BARBER and (2) Melvina BARBER
Stubbs gives the name of William ENDERS' wife as Lydia WALTERS, which
matches what you show in your database on WorldConnect. However, in
looking at the Automated Archives, Inc. CD (Banner Blue Division of the
former Broderbund and The Learning Company and currently Mattel) #229
(McCracken Co., KY, screen 3 of 12), William ENDERS married Lydia DAWSON
on 16 Nov 1840. I see you show a marriage place for William and Lydia
of Paducah and not being very familiar with Kentucky placenames, I
looked Paducah up in a map and see it's in McCracken Co. Looks like we
have the same folks, but a surname for Lydia which isn't the same, but
may be explainable if we were to look at other records of that area.
For instance, did Lydia have a prior marriage to a DAWSON?
Harry it looks like you've got two CATLETT lines (at least). I was
wondering if you could reload your GEDCOM file to WorldConnect and show
the data with both the pedigree and descendancy options. Right now, all
I can seem to be able to do is show descendancies, but not pedigrees.
Was wanting to look at your other ancestors and see who's who in your
tree. <s>
I mentioned earlier that there was also a WOOLFOLK connection in this
line. It seems to come down via the marriage between Robert ENDERS
(above) and Melvina BARBER. Three of their children married WOOLFOLKs.
And Melvina's second husband was Edmond Woolfolk.
If this William ENDERS and Lydia DAWSON are your ancestors, as it
appears, then you're also joined here on this list with other cousins
(via Robert CATLETT and Mary FLOYD) -- Lee Hoffman, Ken Catlett, myself,
and possibly others.

Thank you for making that comment! Stubbs' work has been instrumental in
leading us to some of the right places and to some misleading places as
well. But, then, that's how we should handle the works of others -- until
we have some proof otherwise. It would certainly have benefited us all had
he offered his sources for each listed descendant and spouse!
