Cindi:
Your best bet is the library staff at the Salisbury/Rowan Co., NC Library.
Dr. Jim Epperson's wife, Lucinda, works at the library. The staff in the
Carolina Room are always helpful.
The Thyatira Presbyterian Church (loca. at Mill Bridge on highway to
Mooresville) originally Catheys Meeting House, has only one Cathey with a
marker. He is Alexander who was the leader of the Cathey Settlement. Most
Catheys were younger and migrated to Mecklenburg County (Charlote area)
before they died. Also others migrated to TN with Gen. Rutherford in 1792 to
settle on land awarded for service in Rev. War.
The Churches to visit in Meck. Co. ( if you go there) are Steele Creek
Presbyterian Ch. where Jean Cathey (my ancestor is buried. The other church
is Paw Creek Presb. Ch. where both my Cathey and Henderson ancestors are
buried. Practically all people (dying 1800- 1900 in Paw Creek Community) had
Cathey connection.
If you go to Western NC, the place to visit is Bethel Cem. in Haywood
County, located west of Asheville, NC

Subject: [CATHEY] Rowan County, NC
Planning a trip to Salisbury and Rowan County mid August. Wondered
if
anyone
knew of a local contact in that area who might be available to steer
us in
the right directions. We'd be looking for Cathey cemeteries, one-time
Cathey
lands, Thyatira Church, etc. Any help greatly appreciated.
