Greetings.
I have large amount of data on Cathey settlement. Much of which came from
"Carolina Cradle" by Ramsey. Published by UNC Press in Chapel Hill, NC.
Mill Bridge is still a valid place and Mt Ulla is near Mooresville NC. Sloan
Park is at Millbridge where the Cathey Cousins met for reunion some years
back. Elizabeth Dole and her mother participated. Mrs Hanford was born Mary
Ella Cathey.
A visit to the Rowan Co / Salisbury Library is a must.
They have an excellent library and people come from many places to do
research on Rowan county communities and their family roots.
The cemeterey at Thyatira Presbyterian Church is a must to understand. The
burials are on the internet. A man recently did a study and has posted
results on the www.
The church was originally known as Cathey's Meeting house. Rev McCorkle was
the leader in founding the UNC chapel Hill. I have much data on him. General
Griffith Rutherford is another key person. His eldest dauhghter married a
Cathey.
