Do any of you Cathey researchers know who the people are in the household of Alexander
Cathey (1783-1866)and Mary Locke (1788-1860) in Rutherford Co., TN in 1810? Their
marriage record shows them married in Rutherford Co. in 1805. The 1810 census record
shows 6 males between the ages of 16-26!! Since there are no older males listed in the
household, one of the 6 must be Alexander, depending on when the census was taken he would
have been 26 or 27. The other 5 males are too old to be Alexander's & Mary's
children. Who are they? There are 4 children (1 male, 3 females) under 10 who could be
their children. There are 2 females 16-26, one of whom is Mary. One female 26-45, and one
female over 45.
I know the Catheys, Lockes,Brandons,McKnights, Knoxs intermarried with the Grahams, but I
don't know if that was my Graham line. I do know that my gg grandfather John Graham
was in George Brandon's Company in the War of 1812, Creek Indian War. I have a copy of
the muster roll and his bounty land application although some of it is unreadable. On the
same muster roll are Alexander Cathey, Riley(?) Cathey, Cornelius Brandon, Joseph,
Benjamin,& William Knox, Alexander, Lyon (?), & Wm McKnight. John Graham enlisted
at Readyville, TN where Brandon lived. After the war he was married to Lydia Rushing in
Rutherford Co., That part that is now Cannon Co.,TN. The minister who performed the
ceremony was Macajah Hollis, 12 houses away in order of census from Alexander Cathey. John
Hollis, Macajah's father, was two houses away from Alexander Cathey.
According to census records, my gg grandfather was b. 1792 in NC; we don't know where
in NC. We have not been able to recover the names of his parents or siblings, although I
am suspicious that Easter (or Esther) Graham who married Silas Alexander in Warren Co., TN
in 1811 may have been his sister. Silas Alexander was a witness at John and Lydia's
wedding, later moved to Lawrence Co., AL about the same time as john and lived near him.
Silas & Esther's son Silas Newton Alexander married Miranda May, neighbor of John
Graham in Lawrence Co., AL
I have had my yDNA tested and the closest Graham (36 of 37 markers) who will reveal his
information traces his linage to an Abner Graham on the 1812 Tax List of Warren Co., TN,
but we have been unable to make a concrete connection.
Thanks for letting me bend your ear. Any hints or suggestions would be welcome.
