Hi Donna and Cathey list,
Thanks for starting the list Donna. I'm a Cathey researcher also. My line is
from the NC Cathey's too. I go back through Major William Cathey (1741-1812)
of Haywood Co, NC, son of Andrew Cathey Sr (c1714-c1760), son of James
Cathey (c1680-1757). I have a Cathey web page (link below).
I'll add instructions to my site on how to subscribe to the Cathey list. I
also have a researcher page with the names and e-mail addresses of all the
Cathey researchers I've heard from from the Cathey family (mainly those
families documented in Boyt Cathey's book). I'll let all of them know about
the list, so they can subscribe if they want to.
I have some info on your George Cathey, but like you I don't know who his
parents are. Do you know about the Court Case that names his children and
many of his grandchildren? I think it was from Bedford Co, TN or some other
county in TN. I'd have to check my files to be sure. The court records name
9 children and numerous grandchildren. I can dig it out if it is something
you don't already have. I can't remember who sent it to me offhand, but it
may have been Boyt Cathey.
Anyway, I'll talk to you later!
ps. When I hit "Reply" to your message, the reply only goes to you, not to
the Cathey list, I had to hit "reply to all" to include the list. Is that
something that can be changed? I'm on several lists, most of them reply
directly to the list and not the individual, though a few only reply to the
individual unless you hit "Reply to All".

Welcome to the new Cathey list!
To date, there are 8 of us subscribed to the list, which is pretty good
considering our list has been in existence for less than a week and has
only been advertised in Rootsweb Review.
Although I'm sure our numbers will grow as more time passes, this still
would be a good time for us to post our research interests regarding the
Cathey family.
I descend from Capt. George Cathey (Rev. soldier) who was married to Ann
Price. My direct line is through this couple's daughter, Ann Cathey, m.
Alexander Neill (son of William Neill, Rev. soldier).
Capt. George Cathey was a resident of Mecklenburg Co., NC at the time he
received a large land grant for Rev. War service, the land lying in
present-day Middle Tennessee--mostly in old Rutherford Co. (from which
present-day Marshall Co., TN was formed). He and his family resided, as
did the Neills, near Farmington, Marshall Co., TN.
Here are my research interests regarding this family:
1) Where did Capt. George Cathey die? Family tradition, as seen in
published sketches on this man, states that he is believed to have
returned to Mecklenburg Co., NC in his latter years and that he is
believed to have died there. Has anyone come across any estate record
on Capt. George Cathey?
2) Who is his father? After studying the material presented in Boyd
Cathey's book, to date it appears John Cathey of Rowan Co., NC is the
best candidate to be George's father. Is anyone else researching this
line?
I would be very interested in hearing of other persons' Cathey lines on
the list.
