Welcome to the new Cathey list!
To date, there are 8 of us subscribed to the list, which is pretty good
considering our list has been in existence for less than a week and has
only been advertised in Rootsweb Review.
Although I'm sure our numbers will grow as more time passes, this still
would be a good time for us to post our research interests regarding the
Cathey family.
I descend from Capt. George Cathey (Rev. soldier) who was married to Ann
Price. My direct line is through this couple's daughter, Ann Cathey, m.
Alexander Neill (son of William Neill, Rev. soldier).
Capt. George Cathey was a resident of Mecklenburg Co., NC at the time he
received a large land grant for Rev. War service, the land lying in
present-day Middle Tennessee--mostly in old Rutherford Co. (from which
present-day Marshall Co., TN was formed). He and his family resided, as
did the Neills, near Farmington, Marshall Co., TN.
Here are my research interests regarding this family:
1) Where did Capt. George Cathey die? Family tradition, as seen in
published sketches on this man, states that he is believed to have
returned to Mecklenburg Co., NC in his latter years and that he is
believed to have died there. Has anyone come across any estate record
on Capt. George Cathey?
2) Who is his father? After studying the material presented in Boyd
Cathey's book, to date it appears John Cathey of Rowan Co., NC is the
best candidate to be George's father. Is anyone else researching this
line?
I would be very interested in hearing of other persons' Cathey lines on
the list.
