Margaret CATHEY & James "Jim" HAWK were my gg-grandparents. They are
found on the 1850 Walker Co., GA. census. The census gives her & his
age at 25 yrs. He occupation is listed a Minister of the Gospel. The
ceusus states her birthplace as Tenn & his as Alabama.
They moved to Denton, Texas, sometime between the 1850 census & the 1860
census, where they lived & raised their family and are buried in
Chinn Chapel Cementary in Denton Co., TX just a few miles out of
Denton in an area called Pilots Pointe.
Margaret & Jim had 11 children.
Nancy Amanda Hawk (b) 13 Oct 1857 in Georgia (m) John William "Billy'
Moore in Denton Co., TX (d) 22 Feb. 1914 Denton CO., TX. (2m) to a
Claytor. (My great Grandmother)
William S."Billy" Hawk (b) abt 1845 in Georgia. (m) Rachel ?
James "Jim" Hawk (m) Kate Turpin
John Hawk (m) Amanda Danby
Laura Hawk (m) Lish parks
Alice Hawk (m) Tom DeGan
Evelyn Hawk (m) James DeGan
(The DeGan's were brothers)
Betty Hawk (William Parson)
Joseph Hawk (m) Seota Shepard
Addie Hawk (m) Dane Neal
There is also a John Cathey 2 yrs younger than Margaret Cathey Hawk
found on the Denton Co. census & in the History of Denton, Texas. I
Feel that this may have been her brother. She also had a son named
John.
As told to me by a grandson of Margaret & Jim, who was in his 90's
at the time & has since passed away. Jim & Margaret were involved
in the earlier days of Denton Co., Texas. Jim donated land & started
a church in the Pilot Pointe area, the church is no longer standing.
Even though I have not found any proof, I believe that he could
have been Methodist, he was involved with ?? Chinn who was also a
minister & who is buried in the Chinn Chapel Cementary.
I have recieved information from a gg-granddaughter of James Cathey
that Margaret parents were Elias Cathey (b) 1802-03 (m) Sarah "Sallie"
Turner That they had 10 children.
Margaret (b) 1832-33 in SC. (This information does not go with the
information I have)
James (b) 1935 in Ala
1850 Census ALA , show 10 children ages 1-18 yrs old. Shows Elias,
age 47 & a farmer. There was also a Margaret age 79 living in the
household, most likely his mother. Moved on to Yell Co., Ark. settled
in River, Ark., which is in a Valley at the bottom of the Ouachita
Mountians of the Ozarks. Elais was a pioneer to the areas being one
of nine familes which at the time was marked as Polk & Scott Counties
in the 1860 Census. (I have not as of yet checked out this information
& the source was not mentioned).
