Hello,
I'm Herb Cathey and I think this is what you are looking for. William
Cathey was born 16 Jan 1747 at Rowan County NC. His parents were Alexander
Cathey and Mary Elizabeth Pinkey. William married Elsie Alice Hagan in
Rowan County 7 Dec 1772 and died in 1799 in Sumner County Tn. He had the
following children(8) Alexander, William Jr., James Alexander, Matthew
Brandon, Thomas Dickey, Eliabeth, John and Martha. William was a Major in
the Rev. war fighting for the patriots.. this was how he received land in
the Tennessee Territory. The 1790 cencus shows his household as 2 males 16
years and older including himself, 3 males under 16, 2 females and 6 slaves.
In about 1805 his widow and her sons moved from Sumner county to what is now
Maury County tn where his 4,000 acres was located. The Catheys were among
the first white settlers in the area. Elsie Alice lived in Maury County
until her death in 1822.
I hope this helps a little. For more see the "CATHEY FAMILY HISTORY AND
GENEOLOGY" VOL 1. I can provide info on it for you.
Good digging. Herb
