I'm looking for information on the families of John, William & Alexander Cathey,
who resided on the West Fork of Goose Creek, Sumner County, TN from 1797 onward. I'm
specifically trying to determine if there were any marriages between their families and
that of my direct ancestor, William Sanders (formerly of Caswell Co., NC).
On Sep 23 1797 "John Cathey of Rowan Co., North Carolina" obtained 200 acres on
the West Branch of Goose Creek from Thomas Donoho, adjoining the property of William
Sanders (Donoho was William's brother-in-law). At that time a William Cathey already
resided there, his land also adjoining Sanders', and an Alexander Cathey as well, but
I'm not certain where his property was. Over the next several years John, William and
Alexander Cathey all appear as witnesses to a number of deed transactions by William
Sanders, and as late as 1828 an "A. Cathey" witnessed a deed of gift from Fanny
Sanders, widow of William, to her son Thomas Sanders (my direct ancestor) for a property
in Bedford County.
I suspect one or more marriages may have taken place between the two families, or that
they were "allied" in some other manner, but I have not found any evidence of a
relationship between the Catheys and Sanders. If anyone has information about this
particular family group, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Justin Sanders.
