I am looking for any relatives of William Cathey, b. ca 1747 in Pennsylvania or North Carolina and d.ca 1827 in Sumner County, Tennessee. His wife is Alice or Elsie Hagan, b. 4/10/1754 in Rowan County, North Carolina and d. 3/16/1822 in Maury County, Tennessee. They married 10/7/1722 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
I only know of one child, Elizabeth Cathey, b. 7/5/1776 in North Carolina and d. 3/27/1868 in Maury County, Tennessee. Her Husband is Thomas Walker, b. 11/10/1772 in North Carolina and d. 6/19/1855 in Maury County, Tennessee. They married 9/21/1793.
Any assistance with the Cathey Family would be greatly appreciated.

I have a William Moore Rankin married to a Nancy Cathey. William was born in
1810. His parents were Alexander Rankin and Elizabeth Moore. Elizabeth was
an aunt of mine. This is a Lincoln County, North Carolina, family.

Lois, reference your message. Do I understand that A. Cathey wrote the
letter to Harriet Rankin? What is the context of "having one daughter in
law?" For example, is it clear Harriet is the daughter in law? Do you know
the NC county A. Cathey and William Rankin lived in? From the information
submitted it would appear William's mother more likely was a Moore than a
Cathey. Bill Timmons
I am trying to decipher the connection of 2 names that appear in our family
documents.
I have a copy of a letter written in the mid 1800's to my Harriet Rankin
(born about 1810). The letter closes with a statement."I have but one
daughter in law". The name A. Cathey appears at the bottom.
We also had records from a Rankin Bible that include the names Moore and a
"Cathey"along with the Rankin family members.
Our family data is:
WILLIAM MOORE1 RANKIN was born 1810 in North Carolina. He married HARRIET ?
Abt. 1830 in North Carolina.
If Williams mother was a Cathey then we would be looking for a Cathey born in
the latter half of the 1700's, first initial "A" and living in NC around
1810.
Any suggestions??? Thanks for your help and happy searching,
