Hello fellow genealogists!
Wishing you all the best for the New Year!
For anyone interested in genetic genealogy (genetealogy), amazing strides
have been made in the 4-5 years I've been working on it! We're refining family
(genealogical) relationships, we're ruling out unconnected people carrying
same/similar surnames, and we're delving into the anthropological aspects
(origins and migrations) of our common past. I am thoroughly fascinated (despite
a steep learning curve) and having fun testing all the lines I can find!
I know most of have a pretty good handle on our genealogy lines, but there
are always some questionsremaining... And what about the origins of our
line--where did they come from in deeper history and what other families.?
One of the cool things that's happened this year is that National Geographic
has begun a worldwide project to track early human migration all over the
world. They're testing indigenous folks (in return they offer assistance with
educational and social programs). The guy who's in charge is Spencer
Wells--the guy who id the PBS special called "The Journey of Man" which many of
you
may have seen. Anyone who wants to support the project can get their own
testing done and see where they fit in the early migrations. (You also get a
copy of The Journey of Man, your specific Haplotype and your Haplogroup and a
map of where your group came from and went to. I can explain this further if
anyone is interested.) To look at the National Geographic Genographic
Project, go to

This project is also teamed up with the company we genetic genealogy folks
have been using for years (yippee!). And THAT company is offering a discount
-- thru tomorrow! -- to new members available thru group leaders. I'd love
to see some of you get into these databases! (Each of these projects has one
or more members already you can compare to!) Please know that this is
something I SPEND money on (though it's reasonably priced)--I don't make money.
And it's a cheek swab--no blood. And it's only very specific markers they test
so it's no use to Big Brother...
Sorry for going on so long, but I really hope some of you will find this
worth pursuing! It seems very likely that within 10 years, people will START
with DNA testing, find out who they connect to, and THEN embark on their
genealogical quests... Please contact me--preferably ff-list if you have
questions. If you want the discount, please let me know so I can get it applied. It
expires on the 31st (and, again, I get nothing out of this but the
fascination of genetic genealogy!)...
I hope this note ALSO stimulates some activity in or genealogy lists!
Best wishes for the new year!
