to Mac MacNutt;
your msg did not tell us of the time frame of your Robert McNutt and Mary
Kate. When were they in Orange Co NC? Remember, there are only a few of
us whose Cate(s) line had any connection to the David Nutt family.
The DNA tests that are currently being done test the male ascendency line.
That is, the male being tested for the CATES DNA group MUST bear the
surname of Cates and his father, gf, ggf, etc must also have had the
surname Cates.
A group set up to test the Nutt or MacNutt males would show which men are
descended from a given line. Have you checked to see if such a group has
been established?

I need some help. My G.G.Grandparents are Robert & Mary (Kate's) McNutt. We
know they moved from Orange County, NC. They settled in Scott County, VA We
cannot get past them. Been trying for 8 years. Others have been doing it longer.
We think but am not sure that the Robert Nutt who Married Mary Cate are one
in the same with our G.G.Grandparents. I have the book by Christine and Bob
Damon on the Nutt/McNutt Family. Descendants of David Nutt of Orange County,
North Carolina.
Right now we are about 75% sure they are. But have no way to prove it. Is
there a way that this DNA could possibly be of help. If so then we not only have
the info on them, But can also prove that the McNutts in Ohio, Nova Scotia and
TX are all part of the same family. Also PA. We have been told that my
G.G.Grandfather was born in PA, Moved to NC then after he Married Mary Kate they
moved to VA. If anyone can help us it would be great.
Thanks
Mac McNutt
