Hi Bruce et al,
Thanks for sharing your results! If anyone would like more info about this
project, both Bruce and I can explain further (I'm still learning--it's a new
field!--but willing to help!). Also, can reassure on privacy issues.
Cost is certainly a factor tho it's cheaper to do this (limited markers of
"junk DNA") than the full DNA profile they use in forensics... Thru our
project, the cost for 12 markers is $99. If you find matches, you'll probably
want to upgrade to 25 or 37 markers, but you can do it in increments... (I'm
still willing to pay for any descendant of Wiley Cates of AL or his line)
It's a great present for someone. I've tested my Dad his 1st, 3rd and 5th
cousins. I paid for each (I volunteered) and we are really seeing some
results! Finding connections out of Virginia in the 1600's so far. On another
line, I tested a 93-year old cousin and didn't match anyone I expected to (my
line is brickwalled in 1850). If he hadn't matched anyone, I'd have thought
there was a "milkman" out there somewhere, but he did! Just got my 6th exact
match and we've made our own little sub-list; we're sharing everything;
trees, anecdotes, rumors... just trying to link our lines on paper as we've done
thru DNA... And I no longer waste time with all those other lines I just
don't match! My dad is thrilled with all this! He was my genealogy guru for
years, but this DNA stuff has recharged his interest and gotten him hunting
down distant cousins all over the place! It's something we really share...
Again, Bruce, thanks for sharing! I hope we find some folks to compare you
to soon! (Your 12 marker matches with all those Kincaids is interesting,
isn't it!)
Happy Holidays, all! (And, as always, Happy Hunting!)
