Most unfortunately Jere, the fact that you're female precludes the
Y-chromosome testing! Dog-gone-it! Is there by any chance a male cates in
your line?

Bruce, I am from that Cates line. Richard and Nancy had a son, Woodson
Belleau born around 1859. He was my great grandfather and lived until
1943, age 84. He had a son named Clarence. Clarence was my Grandfather.
He died in 1918 of the Spanish flue. His son, Edgar Homer Cates was my
dad. He just passed away 3 years ago at the age of 89. I am a female;
does that make any difference. I am not sure what all is involved with
this DNA testing. Jere (Cates) Gainey

Though I think Y'all will find that the cost is much less than the time and
cost of tracking down all those false leads we all spend so much time on,
the initial outlay is a chunk at one time.
On the issue of privacy... Information Security and Privacy is the field in
which I make a living. The data from this testing is as safeguarded as any
you'll find. The sad reality is that if someone wants a sample of your DNA,
it's literally everywhere. They could obtain MUCH more information from
many
other sources than they could ever get from the DNA project because of the
specific markers it uses.
A number of folks indicated that they would sponsor DNA testing for
Cate/Cates in their line. If you would, please indicate which line you're
willing to sponsor for and let's see if we can get some folks together. I
for one, will sponsor a Cate/Cates male from the line of Richard Cates, B.
abt. 1823 Resided in Madison Co. KY, married to Nancy, father of John,
Palestine, William, Green, etc...
If anyone reading this who knows any male member of the lines listed,
please
chime in!!!!
