Hi folks,
I'm gratified to see the interest in this subject! I've had some very
interesting results myself in testing various lines--I hope this surname project
will do the same for all of us!
Thnaks to those who have weighed in with their experiences! I'm afraid it is
true that it must be males of the Cates surname who will prove lines
here...That's just the way DNA works. (However! Any female Cates who wants to look
into their maternal lines is welcome to use the discounts thru this project!
Please contact me off-list if you need more info!)
For those who know they want to participate:
http://www.familytreedna.com/ go to the project page and then to "Cates"
I really recommend beginning with at least 25 markers but you can choose 12 ,
25 or 37...
For everyone, please read the info at FamilyTreeDNA.com--there's so much info
available!
For those who've asked for more info, I will try to get back to you this
weekend! Swamped! And if there is anyone who wants to sponsor a male relative,
we can set that up!
Bruce & Don, please sign up!
Kate, and Bettye, thanks for your support! (If I've left anyone out, I'm
sorry! Just busy...)
Jerry, yes--your Cates uncle's male children will show your Cates line & it
would be great if you could sponsor one! It is a cheek swab as Bettye said -
you can order it, pay for it and have access to the results if you can talk
the cousin into swabbing his cheek and sending it in under your aegis...
If there's a male Cates on this list of MY line, I would be very excited to
know it! My line is William Cates of Edgefield, SC b. 1780? d. 1831
Sampson b. 1803 d. 1855 Edgefield, SC
Wiley b. 1832-1834d. aft 1873 in AL
Sally Jane 1858-1936--my g-g grandmother
