Dear List Members:
I'm posting this message on the Cate, Cates, and Lamb Mailing Lists.
I need help with the following CATE/CATES women and their Lamb husbands.
Martha was Goodwin's daughter-in-law and I believe she was the daughter of
Robert D. Cates of Weakley/Bedford Counties, TN. ~~~ I know only that Peter
Lamb was born in NC. A Bible record has supplied complete birth dates for
the families.
Peter Lamb (b. 1798 NC) married Goodwin Cate (b. 1801 NC) in April 1820-1821
in NC. Their children:
-----1. Elijah Lamb b. 1822 NC
-----2. Thomas Lam b. 1824 TN (First record of Peter was in Maury County TN
that year)
-----3. Nellie/Ellender/Ellen Lamb b. 1826 TN
-----4. Dorothy Lamb b. 1827 TN
-----5. Sarah M. Lamb b. 1830 TN
-----6. Rachael Lamb b. 1832 TN
-----7. William Jackson Lamb b. 1834 TN
-----8. Peter Sylvanus Lamb b. 1836 TN
-----9. Martha Ezrabella Lamb b. 1838, Maury County, TN
Peter moved from Maury County to Calloway County KY by 1843, to Christian
County KY by 1850 and then in 1851 purchased land in Muhlenberg County KY
where he lived out his life. Peter and Goodwin's first son was:
-----1. Elijah Lamb (b.1822 NC) married Martha G. Cates, 8 Aug 1844, Polk
County, MO. (Just why they were in Polk County is a mystery because neither
of their families ever lived there that we know of.) Their children were:
----------1.) John R. Lamb b. 1848 TN
----------2.) William Thomas Lamb b. 1849 TN
----------3.) James Wilson Cates Lamb b. 1851 Muhlenberg County, KY
----------4.) Peter Sylvanus Lamb b. 1853 TN
----------5.) Martha F. Lamb b. 1856 Muhlenberg County, KY
----------6.) Margaret M. Lamb b. 1858 Muhlenberg County, KY
----------7.) Daniel B. Lamb b. 1860 Muhlenberg County, KY
Before 1900 the family had dropped the "b" from their name.
Does anyone have the Cates' brides marriages for Orange County NC for the
early 1800's? I have the Lamb NC grooms marriages. I've worked on these two
lines for 15 years without much success. Another researcher has been at it
for 25 plus. So any leads or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.
