census) No parents known would appreciate any help
m.#1 Mahala Horn(e) unknown place @ 1834. She is supposedly sister
of Riley Horne of Tennessee
Children: Thomas b. @ 1835 m. Melissa Ann Morris Dec.
23, 1852, Murray Co. Georgia. This is my
2nd great grandfather. Either died or abandoned family prior to 1860
Census.

Toppins in Tennessee 3 children;
William Houston,Sarah Jane, Felix Grundy

Felix Grundy died during the Civil War
in the Cumberland Gap of Measles.
Sarah Toppin returned to parents home
until death about 1870 then children went to
family named Lowery

Marion Marshall b. @ 1845. m. M.E. Cobb 25
Sept 1865, Franklin Co. Tenn. This man has a romantic history He joined
the 4th Alabama Cavalry more commonly known as Russells Cavalry. They were
absorbed by the 3rd Tennessee better know as Forrests Rangers (William
Bedford Forrest). These were supposedly an elite group of horseman who were
able to constantly harry the Union Army inflicting casualties and slowing
down marching men. They became quite famous/infamous. Marshall must have
been capture for he signed an oath at the prison in Rock Island, Illinois on
16 June 1865. He gave his name as Marshall M. Cates of Cherokee Co.
Alabama. And his age as 20 years which matches the census info.
