You might try around Washington, Carter, and know County, Tenn. Some of
Cates in Texas came through Ark. from Tenn.

I apologize for the last msg to the list. I forgot to click on Plain Text
Kathleen, your David T. Cates was not a brother of the Robert Cates that
you mentioned in your msg to me.
Robert Cates' parents were Norwood Charles Cates and Adeline Elizabeth Horn.
They were both born in Orange Co NC, married there, then moved to
Rutherford Co, TN where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Where did you find your David T. Cates on the 1860 census?

I also have Kate in my family. We have gone as far as we can. All I know is
my G.G.Grandfather Robert McNutt married a Mary Kate in Orange County, NC. But
I do have a book given to me by Christine Damon from TX called the
Nutt/McNutt family of Orange County,NC Starting with David Nutt. We can find nothing on
them. But ironically there is a Robert Nutt who married a Mary Cate from
there. We are thinking they are one in the same. But we have no way to prove it.
Although the dates are almost the same. If you can be of any help it would be
greatly appreciated.
Mac McNutt

PS: Originally from Bristol, VA 30 miles from Scott County, VA where my
G.G.Grandparents settled in VA when they moved from NC.
