Hi, I am doing research on my husband's side of the family? From what I've
gathered, someone went to Jamaica with his family on business (possibly John White Cater
or John James Cater?) and some of his children intermarried with Jamaican women.? My
husband's grandmother Alma Cater, born in 1901, was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica.? My
mominlaw thinks her father's name was James Tom Cater and a mother Paulina???? She,
Alma, had several siblings, including, Charles, Frank, Edward, and Vivian, who all at one
time lived in Jamaica, but Alma, Edward and Frank did live in Cuba for?a time, and Charles
and his wife Linda (daughter named Catalina) raised my husband's father, Cleveland
Cater, as their own child until Alma Cater returned to Cuba, when Cleveland was 18 years
old, in order to "meet" her son.? Alma later went to Canada (1941) and New York
(1947) then eventually went to Florida, where she died in a nursing home in 1988.?
Meanwhile, there are no living Caters that we know of!
that we can ask about this family.? Can anyone out there help me with information or
leads??? Thanks so much and blessings, Ida luv2bmami(a)yahoo.com
