pg 152 Item 3 451 The CATE FAMILY FARM on MOUSE CREEK
Land was acquired by Wm Cate, Sr by an original Patent in the Hiwassee district when it
opened for entry. Land was on Mouse Creek, McMinn CO TN.
Wm Cate, Jr b 1799 - m. Elizabeth Mount they had 9 children
He lived on the Mouse Creek property all his life. He is b in Sullens Cem-Athens, TN.
He left the farm to his eldes son, Alfred Cate.
Alfred Cate b 4 July 1823 - m. Polly Gregory who was 1/4 Cherokee Indian. Alfred taught
all his children and grandchildren to count in Cherokee. He fought 4 yrs during Civil War
in the Confederate Army. Polly was an invalid most of her life yet raised a family of 5
sons and 2 dghts. Benjamin Franklin Cate was there 2nd son, b Jan 1852. His 1st wife
died and he moved home to live with his parents. Polly died in 1898 and Alfred died in
1912. Alfred is buried in the Gregory Family Cem.
Benjamin Franklin Cate m 1 Susan Deakin in 1880. They had Lora Myrtle m. Charles Floyd
Hutsell / Robert Bruce m. Nora Lawson / Tom remained a bachelor / Annie m. Dailey Thomas
/ and Arnold m. Sally Green. He m 2 Margaret Smart of Bradley CO Tn.
(Susan died in 1892). Ben and Margaret had 2 children: Mack L. and Mary B. Upon
Ben's death the farm was acquired by his son, Arnold. Arnold's son Kenneth still
lives on the farm.
