1819 Thomas Bauskett in Newberry District was appointed guardian of
William Cate, Elizabeth Cate and Susanna Cate by a decree issued in the
Newberry District Court. Submitted in evidence was an undated letter
from the above three children from Orange County, NC, which was
witnessed by Ezra Cate. 10 Feb 1819.
Jane's name given as Jean Cate in her father's will & he also lists a
daughter Jane Henry.
1821 John O'Daniel signed his will in Orange Co. NC. He named as
legatees his sons John, Henry, James, Jesse and Green; his daughter Jean
Cate; his daughter Peggy Thompson and daughters Nance, Jane and Anne;
and the children of Susannah Basket, namely Nancy, John and William
Basket, "My will is that the negroe that falls to my daughter Jean Cate
to be hired out for her yearly support by my executors for her life time
and then for her heirs to take the profet that is left. "Executors:

1826 Thomas Bauskett, Guardian, rendered his final settlement with
Susannah Cate. This included funds received from the estates of both
Thomas and Isaiah Cate. 13 Apr 1826.

1834 Court of Equity, Orange County, NC; bill of Complaint filed against
Jesse O'Daniel and others by Jane Cates. Affidavit from Jesse O'Daniel
stated that Jesse O'Daniel was made administrator of the estate of John
O'Daniel after the death of James O'Daniel; and that Thomas Thompson,
the other administrator, had also died. It stated that the Negro Phil
was given to Jane Cates in the will of John O'Daniel, that Jane Cates
had moved to the state of Tennessee where she resided with her son
William Cates, that William Cates had come to this state in 1833 as her
agent and had had a full settlement with Thomas Thompson of the money
deeded her by James O'Daniel & Thomas Thompson, and that Jesse O'Daniel
had taken over the management of Negro Phil, 12 Sep 1834

and You are defendent when & where you may obtain & closely examine as
