Hello Folks,
I have compiled a COMPLETELY HYPOTHETICAL family, based on records, and
request information on any of the folks mentioned. I have some more specific
questions below.
James CATE marries Mary ____, and have the following children:
1. Sarah Cate, who m1. William Gary and m2. Henry Tench. With William, she
has (at least) these children:
a. Thomas Edmunds Gary, b. ABT. 1759
b. Sterling Gary
c. Elizabeth Gary
d. William Gary
e. John Gary
2. Mary W. CATE who m. George Bonner
3. Nancy CATE who m. Henry Bonner; children:
a. Betsy Bonner, who m. David Vaughn
b. Robert Bonner
c. Susannah Bonner, who m. Thomas Murphy
d. Elizabeth Bonner, who m. James Burge
4. Lucretia CATE, who m. James Burge
5. John CATE, who m. Winney Meacham
6.Milly (aka Mildred) CATE, who m. Jeremiah Meacham, and had these kids:
a. James Meacham
b. Jemima Meacham
c. Mary Meacham
d. Martha Meacham
e. Nancy Meacham
f. Milly Meacham
g. Susanna Meacham
h. Frances Meacham
7. Betsy Cate, who m. Joshua Young
OKAY, I am not sure of very much of this. About all I have confidence in is
that John Cate who married Winney Meacham (aka Winifred, Winfred, etc.) is
the son of James CATE and his wife Mary.
The reason I put the family together like this is just to minimize the
number of marriages and births required to satisfy some conditions. So the
connections could be ANY amount more complicated than I have shown. It
seemed to me easiest to make all these CATEs siblings, and hence why I am
posting it here. It should be pretty obvious that my interest is in the
BONNER part.
I ask for assistance because the above does not quite seem to work.
1. Was Mary (the wife of James CATE) born a GARY?
2. Does anyone have any hard dates on any of these people? I note at
WorldConnect that many people show Henry Bonner married to Nancy (aka Ann,
Anne, Anna, Annie, Hannah, etc.) CATE. For his birth and death dates, half
have (1724-1822), and the other half have (1731-1829). This seems to show
that everyone is back-calculating his birth from some death record, which is
now lost. In any case, it causes problems for my scenario above because that
is EARLY for the records I am looking at, which are more like 1810s. I don't
see how there could be so few heirs unless a lot of these CATEs had no (or
few) kids.
3. The real problem with the above seems to be its under-representation of
connections to BONNER or BURGE, or between BONNER and BURGE, or both. What
seem to be heirs of James CATE are:
a. Mary Cate
b. John Cate
c. Joshua Young
d. Jeremiah Meacham
e. Sarah Tench
f. Polly Bonner
g. George Bonner
h. Nancy Bonner
i. Lucretia Burge
The above would explain Polly Bonner or George Bonner, but not both, so
there must be another connection. Similarly, I have NO EVIDENCE of the
Cate-Burge marriage. I think that Henry Bonner and Nancy CATE had a daughter
Elizabeth BONNER, who married James Burge, and had a daughter Lucy, who also
married a BONNER.
How does George Bonner get listed as what seems to be an heir? I can't find
anything that says he is the son of Henry BONNER and Nancy (CATE) Bonner.
Okay, this is long enough already. I will stop now. If anyone has ANY
information about any of these people, or even hints, I would be glad to
receive it :)
Cheers,
Gregg
