Cate(s) Family Tartans Registered and Pewter Cate(s) Family Crest pin soon
to be available
Since someone ask, I thought I'd lat as many folks know as possible. The
reason I've gone to the trouble of doing all this stuff is that as I've
researched my and other Cate(s) families for the past ten years, I keep
finding pretty substantial contributions that have been made by various
Cate(s) members that have gone unnoticed.
It struck me that we'd had a significant impact on this country over time
and no one knew it. I think it's time we as a family, recognize our worth
and celebrate it.
A lot of people have looked for "Cate(s)" Coats-of-Arms as a symbol of their
membership in the family. Unfortunately, the Coat-of-arms you can buy from
various vendors appear to all be fakes. (I've checked four of them, they
don't exist) In reality, there is no such thing as a family coat of arms.
Arms belong to only one person at a time. This is true for every country who
issues Arms.
There ARE however three countries who have Family Crests. One is eastern
European the other two are Scotland and Ireland. These represent membership
in a given family. They all have different rules to how they are used in
their country but they apply to a greater family membership none-the-less.
Given that most of us are Americans, the rules don't apply to us anyway.
Since I am of Scot descent, I found that under some circumstances, Americans
can be granted Arms of Scotland. Luckily, I fit the criterion and so applied
for Arms. The Crest of my Arms is the "Phoenix Rising" and I have offered
that symbol to the family as theirs. This is exactly as it would have been
done in the Middle Ages and the arms were obtained exactly as they would
have been done in the middle ages.
I've gone one step further in that I've applied to register the Crest as a
Trademark of the Cate(s) Family Society and opened membership in that
Society to nearly anyone who wanted to celebrate the Cate(s) family. A
Trademark is as close as Americans get to a Grant of Arms in this country.
The bottom line is that we as a family, regardless of your line now have
both Tartans and a Family Crest to our name which are as real and legitimate
as they get. Y'all are free to use them or not at your option, but we at
least have them now for real.
The Cate(s) Family Crest will be cast as a Pewter crest pin and as such,
they cannot be purchased one at a time. I am going to place an order for
however many people want and that will be all there are so if you're
interested, order as many as you think you may need. I'm not in business to
sell things and this is at actual cost. I'm only going to do this once. The
actual cost of the pins is $12 each plus actual mailing (envelope and
postage) for however many you want. Let me know soon.
The Family Crest pins can be seen at the Cates Cousins Web Site or you can
send me an E-mail and I'll send you a small picture of the Crest Sample. I
can't add files to Rootsweb postings.
